Poor guy... my guess is that he's trying to push off surgery as long as he can... my heart breaks for him!! What a fighter!!!
Has anyone seen/heard news of this week's schedule for Andy? We have tickets for Friday night and I'm nervous.

Looks like he'll be out for both matinees this week. I'm seeing it Sunday, I think I'm more excited knowing how committed he is to this role!

Whateverjsays, how do you know this - is Andy's schedule posted somewhere?

If you go to the shows official website, and go to Full Calendar....under the calendar there is a section that says "cast performance schedule" it posted there.

I wasn't aware of this - thank you so much for the tip!

Do we know if his schedule is the same this week (doing all shows except Wed/Sat matinees)?

Bit of an odd one, as I mentioned previously they had a section that had "cast performance schedule" and this is where they listed shows that AK would miss. That section is not shown anymore. Wondering if this means hes doing all 8 shows this week?
Would love to know as well. I'm planning on going for upcoming Saturday matinee if he's on. Else I'd much rather see Little Foxes or Come From Away
We went on Saturday matinee. From this thread I knew that we were missing Andy Karl and would be seeing Andrew Call instead (funny how close their names are). Andrew was great....really talented and played Phil Connors well. I have zero negative comments, but I couldn't help feeling like we were missing out not seeing Andy. I think if it wasn't the OBC I wouldn't have felt like that, but there's something for seeing the original cast that matches the cd.
The last 2 Mondays in a row is when it was announced that Andy K would go on a restricted performance schedule. Earlier today that posting was removed from the "Ground Hog Day" website - referring to the prior week. So, at least for now, I would assume he's doing all shows.
Keep checking their website for any updates.
Just got tickets to take my son to see this this week, on Thursday evening, 5/4. I couldn't find anything saying Andy Karl would be out, so we'll keep our fingers crossed. It's kind of a family joke that if I'm hoping to see a specific performer, they're often out (the first time we went to see Company, Raul Esparza was out in one of his rare absences. We did go back twice more because my son was obsessed with Esparza and really wanted to see him. Then we also missed Donna Murphy in Wonderful Town - along with a lot of other people but didn't go back to try to see her. Her understudy was very good. And I tried to see Audra's next-to-last performance in Shuffle Along, which was a Saturday night - but she was out. Oh well!)
I did notice that there were quite a few tickets available for Groundhog Day for this Thursday night - Broadwaybox has $79 seats in the rear of the loge. Otherwise it's $159 for some of the orchestra and then some premium seats for around $200 or more. A lot, but after recently looking at Hamilton prices I guess I'm no longer shocked. But there were tickets. Is it not doing that well?

According to this New York Times article, Andy Karl will be doing all 8 shows this week!!

I know it's important for him to do as many shows as possible now before the Tonys, but does this also suggest he may not need surgery (I would think if he did getting back to 8 shows even for a few weeks would not just be ill advised, it would be impossible). I'm seeing the show the week after the Tonys - paid full price for Monday tickets, paid more to swap them for Saturday (thinking if he does a reduced schedule Sat night is a safe bet) and am still prepared for the possibility he will have surgery right after the Tonys and be out completely because his health comes first. But I hope not - after all the waiting and praise for him I am hoping to see him in the role!
Anyone know more about this from an actual medical/rehab point of view? I really hope this means he is indeed getting better and better and won't need surgery.

I saw the show last night as well as last Wednesday evening and from a completely non-medical POV, his movement did seem to be better. I felt like I noticed more adjustments to the placement of his left leg last week.
For those who saw the show pre and post injury, a question:
In the diner scene where Phil's wearing the fur coat, one of the things he does at the moment is put his left leg up on the adjacent stool and show off his brace (last week, even putting a sticky bun on his knee to have fun with the circumstances). I'm curious how that was previously played. Was it just more of opening the fur coat and trying to show off his body?

^^
yes, as I recall (I saw it 5 times before the injury)
He's been having lots of fun with the brace since the injury. The only think I really miss is the little dance he used to do getting into his pants on day 3 (when he becomes frantic). I haven't seen Andrew Call yet, but he tells me that he does the dance.

^ Thanks for the answer! Hopefully I'll get to see the bit you reference down the line.

Four of us were in the city last week. My husband and I saw GD on Friday with Mr. Karl, and our two friends saw the Saturday matinee with Mr. Call. Like you, they thought Call was wonderful, but they really want to see it with Andy.
I'm glad to see in the NYTimes article that Andy did all 8 shows at the start of May. I hope he is on for tomorrow's Wednesday Matinee that I'm seeing. I couldn't find anything online about him still missing. Obviously, safety first, but I would LOVE to see him in the show! *fingers crossed*

From Andrew's Twitter (he retweated the understudy account)
Andrew Call (@AndrewCall1) will be on as Phil Connors in @Groundhogdaybwy tonight, June 6th!
I wonder if Andy wants to be on tomorrow, to give Tim Minchin a view as to the condition of the show, since Tim is in town (he's doing 54 Below Wednesday night)
p.s. anyone have a winner code for tomorrow Matinee they don't need?
