Eeek! Les Miserables is five melodies that repeat over and over in the course of three hours, try harder than that.

There are so many better score's than "Rent"

Well I didn't want to get into it, but he's a Satanist. Every full moon he sacrifices 4 puppies to the Dark Lord and smears their blood on his paino. This should help you understand the score for Wicked a little bit more. Tazber's: Reply to Is Stephen Schwartz a Practicing Christian

I'm not a big fan of that.

And blaxx, take that Eeek right back. THere are only about 10 motifs in Les Mis, but it's a brilliant piece.

The rain we knew is a thing of the past -
deep-delving, dark, deliberate you would say
browsing on spire and bogland; but today
our sky-blue slates are steaming in the sun,
our yachts tinkling and dancing in the bay
like racehorses. We contemplate at last
shining windows, a future forbidden to no one.

I think some people need to find a balence between old and new. I admit I sometimes have trouble finding that balence, but I try. Here's some of my top scores:

Les Miserables
Into the Woods
Fiddler on the Roof
Guys and Dolls
My Fair Lady
Ragtime
Miss Saigon- for melodies sake
Rent
Avenue Q
EDIT: Can't believe I forgot 1776.

ravilolisun and CastAlbumFan, don't criticize other peoples' opinions just because they aren't exactly like yours. I have listened to all the classics quite thoroughly, I just don't like them. My taste is more of the kick-line, glittery top hat type of showtune, Menken, and Schwartz, not Sondheim or R&H or whatever. If my opinions are affecting your life than there are other issues you should be dealing with. please don't criticize, that is my list and this thread is for peoples' top ten list of the best scores, and I think that those are the best scores.

Cheyenne Jackson tickled me. AFTER ordering SoMMS a drink but NOT tickling him, and hanging out with Girly in his dressing room (where he DIDN'T tickle her) but BEFORE we got married. To others. And then he tweeted Boobs. He also tweeted he's good friends with some chick on "The Voice" who just happens to be good friends with Tink's ex. And I'm still married. Ok, this a very tough one, so I'm going to choose ten out of the ones I have, because there are far too many to think of;

CHICAGO
FIDDLER ON THE ROOF
HELLO, DOLLY!
JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR
LES MISERABLES
MACK & MABLE
MISS SAIGON
THE KING AND I
THE SOUND OF MUSIC (Mostly Brilliant, Partially Crap)
WEST SIDE STORY

Don't go crazy, it was a tough one, this!

I think I prefer your second one, D2. I was going to include My Fair Lady, but I just simply detest 'You Did It' and 'Show Me'.

I don'y understand why anyone would have a problem The King & I. There are silly patter songs like any show from that era, but overall it's a classic. So many great songs, and they compliment the themes of the story or even push the action forward.

I'm actually surprised to see so many people sharing some of my favorites as part of their top ten. It seems like everytime I check in to this everyone is STILL talking about Wicked.

This is always a hard question... I try to make this list all the time and it is always changing, but here's my latest attempt, in no particular order

RAGTIME (thrilled to see this on so many lists)
ONCE ON THIS ISLAND (my favorite of all time)
MERRILY WE ROLL ALONG (my favorite Sondheim)
OLIVER
WEST SIDE STORY
1776
MY FAIR LADY
INTO THE WOODS
THE SECRET GARDEN
ANNIE

I realize that this list is a mix of shows that have great scores and shows that mean a lot to me. Having said that, though, I do think the scores of both "Annie" and "The Secret Garden" are underrated. "Annie" gets mired in the popularity of "Tomorrow" when the rest of the score is ignored. "The Secret Garden" all I can say is that I've been listening to the CD for 16 years and never tire of it.

There are also scores that I acknowledge as great, such as SWEENEY TODD, but I prefer to SEE that show as opposed to listening to it.
