doesn't seem like there's one performance this year that will trump all others - no hugh jackman in boy from oz or christine ebersole in grey gardens. who are the frontrunners?
As much as I loved that production of 'Brief Encounter', I wouldn't classify it as a musical (despite the actor-musicians and live singing).
Douglas Hodge might get it this year
My guess is either Lansbury (how ridiculous that this woman hasn't won this award yet!) or Doug Hodge.
I'm voting for Lansbury.
It's definitely between Hodge and Lansbury. Also, I am SOOOOO psyched that Brighton Beach Memoirs was nominated!! Can it please win?
I don't get why they Nominate so many shows. Makes it seem so pointless. I much prefer the Tony system of having 4 shows/5 performances nominated.
Wait... AS YOU LIKE IT was nominated, but not THE TEMPEST?

Time Stands Still? Yank? Christiane Noll? Kristin Chenoweth? Michael Cerveris?
Strange.

I think they stuff the list full of nominees in order to sell tickets to their dinner.
It's for sure between Hodge and Lansbury.
Lansbury all the way. This could be her last chance.

No Kate Baldwin? Best thing about Finian's.
And I'm sorry, but whenever I see or hear Tony Vincent in AI, all I can think of is Skeeter from the Nickelodeon show "Doug." Same look, same high pitched whine.
Besides those already mentioned, other interesting things:
A Behanding in Spokane makes it in for Best Play, while In the Next Room, and Superior Donuts do not
No Royal Family for Best Revival of a Play
Performance omissions: Alexander Hanson, Chad Kimball, Quentin Earl Darrington, Christiane Noll, Patrick Breen, Alison Pill and Abigail Breslin, Justin Bartha, Michael McKean, James Spader
Supporting performances that are Tony nomination possibilities who aren’t on the list include Stark Sands, Rebecca Naomi Jones, Sam Rockwell, Kevin Chamberlin, Maria Dizzia, Sarah Paulson
I would assume Everyday Rapture is not eligible (if it is, their system is totally messed up!)
I agree that Brief Encounter is better categorized as a play with music than as a musical.
Aaron Lazar, Erin Davie, and Tony Goldwyn are also Featured possibilities this season.
They typically stick to two performance nominations per show, so Angela and Catherine took the Night Music spots. Two years ago, the same thing happened to Kelli O'Hara when Paulo and Loretta were nominated and she was left out. Shocked by the Alison Pill and James Spader snubs though.
I am most of all shocked by the lack of Kate Baldwin. Finian's only got one performance nomination... for Jim Norton. They could have easily sent a second one the way of Kate or Chris Fitzgerald.

I can't imagine Chenoweth is too thrilled that they chose Finneran over her!
I noticed that... and I laughed. Lol. Good for Katie; she deserves it.
Mark-Paul Gosselar for THE UNDERSTUDY. Really?
No Robert Petkoff from RAGTIME? That was the most glaring omission to me, he made that show!

Am I correct in assuming that Fela! wasn't nominated because the Off-Broadway version opened last year in time for last year's nominations? If it was eligible last year, did it win for anything? Excuse my ignorance.
Yup. It says right under the Best Musical category:
*The Broadway transfer of Fela! was nominated for the 2009 Distinguished Production of a Musical during its Off-Broadway run, and was therefore ineligible for nomination this season.
I'm pretty shocked at the omission of Christiane Noll, Kate Baldwin, and Chris Fitzgerald. I'm also confused as to why Montego Glover was nominated for Memphis and Chad Kimball was not. I'm thrilled for Bobby Steggert though, totally well-deserved as he turned in two great performances this season.
You're confused by the fact that Chad Kimball was left off the list...?
I'm also confused as to why Montego Glover was nominated for Memphis and Chad Kimball was not.
Because she's talented and he's not?
