I care.

Not to the degree that I'm weeping or wailing, but I'll think "oh, too bad", and then go back to watching Full House re-runs, same as people do when they read about the latest massacre in Syria.

People care, but only so much. What do you expect?

It's also a holiday weekend, so I'm sure a lot of people aren't "plugged in" in any case.

As Jay implies, it's not quite the tragedy it would have been if he had died young, or of a terrible longterm disease, as awful as that is to say in a way. He lived a good life, he lived to be a very good age. Actually, just a few days back I was looking him up to see how old he was.

I certainly appreciate Hal David. Although I respect Dionne, I much prefer this version. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xlr-gS1VhWY

I cared. I was listening to my recording of the 1997 Encores Cast of PROMISES, PROMISES in his honor.

Eastwood cares.

He tweeted: A chair is still a chair. Even when there's no one sitting there.

"Weeks turn into years
How quick they pass
And all those stars
Who never were
Are parking cars
And pumping gas."

One of the simplest and most elegant pop lyrics ever written.

Like everyone else, I played my srattchy 33 of "Promises, Promises" and tried to think back to the night Hal and Burt thrilled me at that show. Good times then, sad time now.

Fair trade.

People can care deeply without posting or tweeting about it. I do.

I wonder what made Playbilly start caring at 7:58. Why did he not care most of the day?

Did you care enough to post a superior, passive-aggressive thread about it?

I think not!

Poor Hal David, may he rest in peace.

Somewhere in an alternate universe, instead of a passive-agressive scolding that brings out the defensiveness in all of us, we might have had a lovely thread to follow, touting the man's incredible legacy.

Ah, well ...

Can we be living in a world made of paper mache?
Everything is clean and so neat
Anything that's wrong can be just swept away
Spray it with cologne and the whole world smells sweet

Ice cream cones and candy bars
Swings and things like bicycles and cars
There's a sale on happiness
You buy two and it costs less
