This picture went viral on tumblr and Twitter (among other places), but am I the only one who finds it poor taste to take a picture from a non-famous person’s social media account and post it everywhere because their spouse happens to be famous?
When I see the phrase "the ____ estate", I imagine a vast mansion in the country full of monocled men and high-collared women receiving letters about productions across the country and doing spit-takes at whatever they contain.

I lived in Manhattan 24 years. Used to see Marian Seldes en route to and from "Deathtrap" (full makeup, always), get on with Christopher Guest in the mornings. Oh, and yesterday I rode the #1 train with Ellen Burstyn, 85, heading to the women's march. Love NYC, it's still here, its trains a glorious playing field leveler. Smart people know it's the easiest way to get around.

Thank You everyone for the advice on subways. I've taken them sporadically through the years of visiting, and never knew these - what seems now - obvious things. Yikes!
Yes, Mildred. Glenn Close does ride the subway. At least she did after a matinee in the Village I attended last spring where she was in the audience. And no one bothered her.

It would be nice if someone would just link to the instagram post where this was first seen, which I can't even find now because even THERE no one knows how to source stuff.

LOL. I wanted to mention the hat, but I didn't want to hear the wrath of Patti fans. When I first saw the photo, I thought it was her hair. I thought she went out in public with her hair looking like that. The hat.....I have no words.
Has she done her hip replacement surgery? "WAR PAINT will now end its run on November 5 at the Nederlander Theatre to allow LuPone to have necessary and immediate hip-replacement surgery."
Im almost positive this was the exact ensemble she was wearing when I saw her at Meteor Shower last Saturday, the 13th, after the matinee, I exited the theatre pretty quickly and as I did I walked right by her and did like a triple take. Then her and her husband went to the stage door to wait for autographs from the cast, I'm sure of it. (She went backstage, if my sarcasm wasn't obvious) She was using a cane btw, and she's so short in person!
