Rachel Bloom? Not sure if she's a "big" enough name, but she's been doing the backstage stuff for two years now, and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend is in its final series. I'm not totally sure if she's popular enough with Broadway audiences though.
It is really an issue with people watching broadcast television. More and more viewers watch streaming or Hulu versions of their favorite shows and events.
It would be interesting to see how many viewers watched an award show via DVR or other service after the live event?
The days of only watching TV with an original broadcast date are over.

I don't even think it's a DVR thing - almost everyone I know has cut cable altogether. CBS All Access exists, but I'm not sure how popular it is... and I don't know how many people would pay for the whole show on iTunes. Definitely a problem for lots of broadcast programming, not just the Tonys.
So. I’m gonna go out on a limb. My hope is that Cher takes on hosting the tonys this season. I mean she has experience and the stories and skits and experience with costume changes. It would also be a great way for her to promote the Cher Show. Because I think it’s pretty safe to say that it won’t be taking home any Tony’s

There’s a better chance of Donna Summer hosting than there is of Cher doing it.
He also said he’d considering writing the book and lyrics to a musical and considering his work on co-op, I wouldn’t be against the idea. A Home Alone musical anyone?

Genuinely surprised LMM hasn't hosted yet. You know he wants to.
John Mulany is very popular with the millenial/gen Z crowd and may help pull them in. As a young person I'd be more interested in watching him host than Cher.
Soooo thought about this one tonight but what about Darren Criss? He's very IN right now as he is riding on that popularity high with his Emmy and Golden Globe wins. He would certainly help to pull in some outsiders to tune in while still kind of keeping it in the theatre family.
It's a lot of work for very little pay. Most people probably don't want to do it. If LMM had wanted to do it over the last decade, he would have. The Oscars went really well without one, I don't think it's necessary.
