Andrew Lloyd Webber (& other?)
Stephen Sondheim (& other?)
Cole Porter (& other?)
Alan Menken (& other?)
Ahrens & Flaherty
Stiles & Drewe
Kander & Ebb
Rogers & Hammerstein
God this is Hard

Cole Porter- Kiss Me Kate (Act 1 Finale)
Alan Menken- Reflections (Mulan, not Broadway...yet)

R& H- "If I Loved You" (Carousel)
err what about Boubil and Schonberg?! - tie between "Empty Chairs at Empty Tables" and "Live With Somebody you Love" (Martin Guerre).....oh hell, and "One Day More"
this is too easy...
Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice - "You Must Love Me"
Stephen Sondheim - "More"
Cole Porter - "Always True To You (In My Fashion)"
Alan Menken and Howard Ashman - "Somewhere That's Green"
Ahrens & Flaherty - "The Cuddles Mary Gave"
Stiles & Drewe - we're picking these two over Betty Comden, Adolph Green, Jule Styne, Moose Charlap and Carolyn Leigh?
Kander & Ebb - "I Don't Care Much"
Rodgers & Hammerstein - "Ten Minutes Ago"

Andrew Llyod Webber: "Surrender" (Sunset Blvd.)
Stephen Sondheim: "Now You Know" (Merrily...)
Cole Porter: "Blow, Gabriel, Blow" (Anything Goes)
Menken: "Somewhere That's Green" (Little Shop)
Ahrens: "The Burden of Life", "Princess", and "Tell Me Why" (all from Man of No Importance)
Kander and Ebb: "Perfectly Marvelous" (Cabaret) and "She's a Woman" (Kiss of the Spider Woman)
R&H: "This Nearly was Mine" (South Pacific)
it's funny how some people list the composer only for some songs and for others they list both composer and lyricist.
who wrote the lyrics to "Surrender" from "Sunset Boulevard"? The poor guy gets no respect.
and no props to Howard Ashman for coming up with part of "Somewhere That's Green"? Not Cool.

My sincerest apologies, Marquise
Well, Don Black is not exactly the greatest lyricist () in the world, but he should get some credit.
But Ashman, I will always beleive, was the driving force for all of the great songs (and there are many) in the Menken/Ashman catalogue. That man's knowledge and passion were beyond extraordinary.
ALW: Don't Cry for Me Argentina
SS: That's a Tie between "Sunday" and "Johanna".
CP: After You
AM: Zero to Hero from "Hercules"
A&F: "The Night That Goldman Spoke..." and "He Wanted to Say" - They count as one, because they are similiar.
S&D: My ignorance prevents me from typing anything here
K&E 'Isn't This Better"
R&H : Yuck! I mean "Mister Snow"
(Adding my own here : ) Stephen Schwartz - Morning Glow
Is Don Black Jane Krakowski's longtime boyfriend?
Marquise-I agree, it's a damn shame how whoever writes lyrics with ALW is almost certain to attain nothing but annonymity.
Lloyd Webber- Music of the Night
Sondheim- Rose's Turn
Porter- Anything Goes
Menken- Some Fun Now
Ahrens- Coalhouse's Soliloquy
Kander and Ebb- Perfectly Marvelous
Rodgers and Hammerstein-Gonna Wash That Man Right Outta My Hair
Sondheim didn't compose Rose's Turn
ALW: Pie Jesu or Heaven on Their Minds or Gethsemane
SS: Agony
Porter: Night and Day
Menken: King of New York (NEWSIES baby!!)
Ahrens & Flaherty: Wheels of a Dream
Kander & Ebb: Mein Herr
Rodgers & Hammerstein: It Might as Well Be Spring
Andrew Lloyd Webber - Not my favorite, but I really like something about Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again
Stephen Sondheim - Any Moment/Moments in the Woods
Cole Porter - Always True to You, In My Fashion
Alan Menken - ooh god, I love all of Little Shop. Skid Row, I guess, if I must choose.
Ahrens & Flaherty - Wheels of a Dream
Stiles & Drewe _ I've actually never heard of them
Kander & Ebb - Cabaret
Rogers & Hammerstein - Ahh I forgot South Pacific, I LOVVVVVVVE You've Got to Be Carefully Taught.
Hammerstein didn't compose "South Pacific" or "It Might As Well Be Spring" or "Mister Snow". Richard Rodgers was the composer.
Fred Ebb did not compose "Mein Herr", "Cabaret", "Perectly Marvelous", etc. John Kander composed those.
Maybe the title of this thread should be changed to "Single Favorite Songs from Songwriters" (no offense to Capn Hook, who started this thread).
It's interesting reading all of your lists though.
I see that there has been some confusion. especially with Sondheim "composing" Rose's Turn. woof. anyway, if we are simply listing compositions, then there is no need to include the lyricist's name, but since the title is favorite song then I'm guessing then that this includes the lyrics too. so for some of these posts, yes, Andrew Lloyd Webber does not write lyrics so to say that your favorite Andrew Lloyd Webber song is .... whatever it is... then the lyricist should also be listed. only in the case of Stephen Sondheim and Cole Porter, just from the ones that Capn originally posted, is there the possibility of one being both composer and lyricist. Ok. . . I'm going to stretch the composer/lyricist argument and say that "One Hand one Heart" is my fav Sondheim song, because he collaborated on West Side Story. (sorry, I'm not too familliar w/ his other works, plus no one mentioned Bernstien so I had to)
ALW = The Perfect Year
Menken = If I Can't Love Her
A&F = New Music
K&E = Mr. Celophane
R&H = Do I Love You Because You're Beautiful?
And. . . Menken and Ashman ARE and forever will be the greatest creative team to have written a musical. Ok, so Tim Rice wrote the lyrics for "If I Can't Love Her" but that doesn't change my opinion! And "Part of Your World" is just the best song ever! I didn't include it, because its not from a broadwy show. . . YET!
Andrew Lloyd Webber- Heaven on their Minds (JCS)
Stephen Sondheim- America (WSS)
Alan Menken- Reflection (just like Eponine said, it's from Mulan, but it's a great song)
Kander & Ebb- Cabaret (Cabaret)
Rogers & Hammerstein- Impossible (Cinderella)
Ahrens & Flaherty- Journey On (Ragtime)
Andrew Lloyd Webber (& Co.) -Call me Rusty, the opening to JCS
Stephen Sondheim- Chrysanthemum Tea, Everybodys Got the Right
Cole Porter - DeLovely, Begin the Beguin
Ahrens & Flaherty - Henry Ford
Kander & Ebb - Cabaret, The world Goes Round, Finale to Cabaret
Rogers & Hammerstein - Kansas City
Coleman- (i can't pick. i love it all)
Correction... Menken did not compose Reflection. The songs in Mulan were written by Matthew Wilder and David Zippel.
My choices:
Andrew Lloyd Webber - Another Suitcase in Another Hall
Stephen Sondheim - Unworthy of Your Love
Cole Porter - All Through the Night
Alan Menken - hard to choose...Sailing On, no, Stop and See Me, no, Daughter of God, no, definitely Part of Your World

Rodgers & Hammerstein - Out of My Dreams
