I totally agree about RENT. Considering was was out when RENT opened, it is unique. I thought Side Show was pretty uniqe as well.
The Lion King.
Do I think it's the best musical ever? Not at all.
But, there was so much in that show that was unique and innovating, that made me go "wow".
Don't yell at me...but I'm going with Taboo.
I second Taboo. Wow just...wow
I second Taboo. Wow just...wow
I'll respond by saying...
SHOCKHEADED PETER.
That was such an amazing show. (Ducks from things thrown by SP haters.) True, the opening scene with the emcee really could've been cut down, but the show was excellent from there on in. That was off broadway, though, but it was still the strangest, wierdest and most funniest musical I ever saw.
Hedwig and The Angry Inch... I trudged all over through the snow to find the thing... was scared out of my mind descending into that rat-trap basement to see it... and then had my mind blown by the show.
"Whistle Down the Wind" - it also had the biggest set I think I have ever seen, It was - Overwhelming.
Sorry, but you said unique...
BKLYN
I'd say Caroline, Or Change...but I saw a really weird show called Squonk (sp?) several years ago that was way weirder than that, but it more of a "special event" than a musical.

I'm going with Hedwig here.
Although, I have to agree about CATS. For it's time, it was extremely unique.
I have to go with TOMMY. That just sticks out in my mind even years later. The story is bizzare in itself and the stage rocked. WOW!
broadwaystar2b--- I'm with you on "Cats." A completely unique concept and show.

Into the Woods
De La Guarda. Most unique and exciting theatrical experience I have ever witnessed. It should still be running.

I think BKLYN was unique as well. I guess I agree about Cats, too.
The new Sweeney production is pretty darn unique! IMO
(I only just figured out what IMO meant and really wanted to use it)
