'Day Break' Goes Dark at ABC 'Show Me the Money' also pulled December 15, 2006
The pre-Christmas housecleaning of ABC's schedule continued Friday, with the crime drama "Day Break" and game show "Show Me the Money" being shown the door.
The moves come a day after ABC booted the comedy "Help Me Help You" from its lineup, opting instead to run back-to-back episodes of "Big Day" in the 9 p.m. Tuesday spot for the next few weeks.
The dumping of "Show Me the Money" is a bit of a surprise considering that just last week ABC ordered six more episodes of the William Shatner-hosted quiz show and announced it would move to Tuesdays after the new year. That won't be happening now; news reports say the network still has several finished episodes waiting to air, but there aren't at the moment any set plans to burn them off.
As for "Day Break," its future was already in doubt when ABC announced that two comedies, "The Knights of Prosperity" and "In Case of Emergency," would take over its 9 p.m. Wednesday timeslot starting Jan. 3. That would have left the serialized thriller starring Taye Diggs without a home a month before its scheduled conclusion.
The decision follows a weak ratings performance this week, with both shows hitting new lows in the key adults 18-49 demographic (1.6 for "Money" and 1.4 for "Day Break").
Reruns of "George Lopez" and "According to Jim" will fill the two hours from 8 to 10 p.m. Wednesday for the next two weeks (both shows begin new seasons on the night in January). "America's Funniest Home Videos" will slide into "Show Me the Money's" Tuesday spot starting Jan. 2. Day Break goes dark.....

It's a good thing I didn't start watching that show...
I mean, seriously, how long were they going to go on with the show? The character lives the same day over and over, but his girlfriend still dies, so the first bit of the show & the last bit is the same...but, whatever...
I didn't watch it regularly, but thought it was OK when I did see it. I definately don't think we need another game shot... bleck. Anyway, yes, I'm sure Taye will find something else soon enough.
"In the rain, the pavement shines like silver
All the lights are misty in the river
In the darkness, the trees are full of starlight
And all I see is him and me forever and forever."
Poor Taye...he can't save any show, no matter WHAT network.
STACKED, Marissa Jaret Winokur's sitcom (well, Pamela Anderson's, actually) was also pulled some time ago.
I hope John Lloyd Young is saving his JERSEY BOYS money and not expecting his ABC deal to go to his head. Marissa Jaret Winokur also had this same deal when she left HAIRSPRAY for a potential TV show, which didn't sell and her contract was terminated.
Hope people remember NBC TV's short-run sitcom KRISTIN? It was cancelled after only 6 episodes, though NBC still kept Kristin Chenoweth's contract open. I'm quite sure this opened HER eyes and which is why she's kept her Broadway stints quite frequent -- bills still need to be paid.
I heart Taye Diggs and all (I really enjoyed what I saw of Kevin Hill), but I totally thought Day Break would have been pulled long before this- I've been betting on it over at brilliantbutcancelled.com for *weeks* now, I'm finally entered in the video iPod drawing.
Was this an ad?? "I heart Taye Diggs and all (I really enjoyed what I saw of Kevin Hill), but I totally thought Day Break would have been pulled long before this- I've been betting on it over at brilliantbutcancelled.com for *weeks* now, I'm finally entered in the video iPod drawing"
The show is *ok* and it pisses me when networks get you hooked into a show that is serialized and then yanks it so you never know how it was gonna end. But while I like Taye, I think he is a HORRIBLE actor. Some of his scenes in the show are just painful to watch.
That's too bad for Taye. I never saw the show but the premise did seem a little absurd. I also feel kind of bad because there was that HUUUUGE poster of him in Times Square, and I laughed every time I walked by it. Is that gonna be taken down now?
it makes me so sad... it was a really goood show, at least imo I think it was just too heavily advertised and then the premiere was kind of... not the best episode. It was so confusing that it made people loose interest, but AFTER the first episode it got really good.
Eh, at least that means taye and idina wont be needing to move to LA, so idina'll be nearer to me to do gigs and stuff once her new cd comes out (I'm hoping to go to NYU for college, so I'd be sooo sad if right when I finally got to live in the city, idina moved away lol)
I don't need a life that's normal. That's way too far away. But something next to normal would be okay. Something next to normal is what I'd like to try. Close enough to normal to get by.
That's too bad. I though Day Break as good as the concept allowed. It wasn't LOST material, but I did at least want it to come to a conclusion. Any chance of them airing the last episodes online or something?
