To Josh Strickland- Go listen to "The Most Happy Fella" for Christssakes. "My Heart is so Full of You" and the "I Don' Know Nothin' About You" theme have to be the most romantic things ever written for musical theatre. I was surprised to see how many times that came up. I was quite happy.
Ditto to all those who said "Maria" from West Side Story, though topping even that for me is "Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered" from Pal Joey (thank you, Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Jill O'Hara...and Jesse does also have a point about "It's Hard Out Here For a Pimp").
"If there is going to be a restoration fee, there should also be a Renaissance fee, a Middle Ages fee and a Dark Ages fee. Someone must have men in the back room making up names, euphemisms for profit."

Glad that a DRS song was included ('Nothing is Too Wonderful to Be True') and 'The Next Ten Minutes' from L5Y.
and 'Someone To Watch Over Me' from Crazy For You!!!!

You must remember all the same that at the crux of every game is knowing when it's time to leave the table... And it's important to be artful in your exit. No turning back, you must accept the con is done... It was a ball, it was a blast. And it's a shame it couldn't last. But every chapter has to end, you must agree. ~Dirty Rotten Scoundrels~
There's a special kind of people known as show people. We live in a world full of dreams. Sometimes we're not too certain what's false and what's real. But we're seldom in doubt about what we feel. ~Curtains~

""Somewhere" from WEST SIDE STORY has got to be the winner-even the 2/3 express trains agree."
OMG, YES! Thank you Kate Reinders! Ever since the 2/3 became my main train I've realized that and thought it meant I was just way too obsessed with WSS. It's the 2 train. Whenever it starts again after making a stop, it makes this "starting" noise that's like 3 different sounds that sound kind of like notes...recognizable notes...it sounds EXACTLY like the first 3 notes of somewhere: "There's...a...place" And it's in my head the whole way on the 2 train! I've been telling people that, but OMG Yes! I'm soo glad I'm not the only one who noticed that!
""Mea Culpa", cut from SWEENEY TODD. What's more romantic than an old man fantasizing about his adoptive daughter?"
Hahaha, I love Steve Rosen!
It's probably snobby of me to nitpick that everyone who said "Tonight" from WSS actually meant "Balcony Scene" from WSS. Oops. Sorry.
And as for me, I'm sure it's shocking, but I have to agree with Maria too. Part of my 101 reasons WSS is the best score ever, just listen to the music and notes of Maria. I have never heard such music that expressed romance, young first love. It's amazing.
"If there was a Mount Rushmore for Broadway scores, "West Side Story" would be front and center. It snaps, it crackles it pops! It surges with a roar, its energy and sheer life undiminished by the years" - NYPost reviewer Elisabeth Vincentelli
I'm going to say "The Next Ten Minutes" from L5Y, and "Take Me As I Am" from Jekyll & Hyde. Also going to agree with whoever said "Say IT Somehow" from LITP.

I chose, and my world was shaken- So what? The choice may have been mistaken,
The choosing was not...

It's too hard to pick just one, but if I had too, I think I have to say 'If I Loved You' from Carousel like so many other people on the list. It's timeless and just as beautiful everytime I hear it. Runners up:
'I Have a Love' - WSS 'Say it Somehow' - LITP 'My Funny Valentine' - Babes in Arms 'What More Can I Say' - Falsettos
"If you've got something to say, say it, and think well of yourself while you're learning to say it better." - David Mamet
I completely agree with anyone who said Maria from West Side Story. I melt everytime I hear that song. And of course anything written by Rogers and Hammerstein is romantic.
