I would really like to know if there's anyone who would pick Disney over Sondheim, who IS familiar with the original productions of both musicals.

I have to go with The Lion King. Only because the character of Fosca really annoyed me in Passion. But I enjoyed the music.

Just give the world Love.

If PASSION loses to THE LION KING, we can all stop wondering why things are headed downhill for Broadway.

PASSION!!!

"In theater, the process of it is the experience. Everyone goes through the process, and everyone has the experience together. It doesn't last - only in people's memories and in their hearts. That's the beauty and sadness of it. But that's life - beauty and the sadness. And that is why theater is life." - Sherie Rene Scott

"It is possible to be a musical theatre fan and NOT be a fan of Sondheim you know."

I totally know that. But I don't think I know anyone who is familiar with Sondheim that LIKES The Lion King, whether they love or hate Sondheim... if that makes sense? Anyone I know that is familiar with Sondheim likes him (and generally dislikes Disney musicals) or dislikes him (because they prefer A) mostly musical theatre pre- 1950ish, B) more of the Loesser/ Herman/ Schwartz style of musical tunesmithing, C) some other ridiculous specificity).

I've also only ever met 4 or 5 people who liked The Lion King, and I could name at least 100 friends who loved Passion.

Perhaps I spoke too soon...but it's not as if THE LION KING doesn't have ANY artistic merit. It's original conception and design is ASTOUNDING.

I may be one of the few, but I would chose this Disney show over this particular Sondheim.

"I've also only ever met 4 or 5 people who liked The Lion King, and I could name at least 100 friends who loved Passion."

You need to get out more. There a lot more fans of The Lion King than there are of Passion.

I love Sondheim, but in this case, THIS Disney show is better than THIS particular Sondheim.
