Is there a list somewhere of all of the productions that opened in 2008?

It's hard for me to compile one without a list in front of me...

I still have Next to Normal, Les Mis at the Signature and West Side Story at National to see this year but it'll probably look something like this:

1. Black Watch (Toronto and St. Anns, NY)
2. Hair (Public in the Park, NY)
3. Kiss of the Spider Woman (Signature Washington DC)
4. Passing Strange (Broadway)
5. Gypsy (Broadway)
6. On the Town (Encores, NY)
7. The Sound of Music (Toronto)
8. The Visit (Signature DC)
9. 13 (Goodspeed and Broadway)
10. Streamers (Off-Broadway)

I'm not counting Billy Elliot mainly because I've seen it before in London already.

(update: oops. I forgot to add in A Catered Affair to this list:)
In the Heights, Sunday in the Park with George, [title of show], 6 Characters in Search of an Author (London), She Loves Me (Boston Huntington), Wig Out (Off-Broadway) came close behind.

This is the first year I went crazy with theatre (89 shows so far, last year I think I hit 65, previous to that was usually like 10 at most) so I finally HAVE a bunch to actually choose from! ha!

And yes. I really did like 13. A lot. (And I'm actually over 30).

Though the list above is still in progress and not my final for the year.

1. Sunday In The Park With George (Favorite show, and the production met and exceeded all expectations I had. Such a tasteful show and such beautiful performances)

2. Gypsy (I mean, I've seen it twice and each time I was captivated)

3. South Pacific (Beautiful production and I just loved the whole venue)

4. Xanadu (Too hilarious for words. Cheyenne Jackson was marvelous as was Kerry Butler)

5. Next to Normal (I still can't decide if I LIKE it that much, but I really enjoyed it. I don't care for Alice Ripley's voice, but luckily the other actor's voices were great, and so that made up for it. And I thought the story was nice, and the music great. I mostly appreciated the underscoring, but after awhile all the ballads got to be too much)

6. All My Sons (I had never read the play before, so I thought the story was so interesting and intriguing, and the direction only added to my interest in the show. I loved the use of technology, and I know it has its nay-sayers, but I really liked the choices he made. They were bold, but I thought they worked - for the most part. I still don't get why the actors needed to be on stage the whole time. That seemed....stupid. I don't understand the whole "disengaging" the audience, doesn't make sense.)

7. [Title of Show] (Such a witty show, and it was just a joy to watch. I would have gone back had it not closed so soon. Also the Lyceum is my favorite theater on Broadway - as of yet. I haven't been in them all, but I'm working on it.)

8. Hair [What a stellar production. I had never seen the show before and I was just captivated and in awe. It was such a great evening out, especially because the Clintons were in attendance)

9. Tale of Two Cities (I know, again, it has its nay-sayers, but I enjoyed it. I saw it twice and I was inspired enough to read the book. I thought the show was great, but I could see it's faults. Like N2N it was a little too ballad heavy, but the ending made up for any faults in the show.)

10. The Fantasticks (What a nice, little show. I loved the simple orchestrations and all the actors were great. I still need to get this cast recording, unless someone wants to drop it in my stocking? And by stocking I mean inbox).

"In theater, the process of it is the experience. Everyone goes through the process, and everyone has the experience together. It doesn't last - only in people's memories and in their hearts. That's the beauty and sadness of it. But that's life - beauty and the sadness. And that is why theater is life." - Sherie Rene Scott
