Sounds like another "safe" idea for a musical. Why not film a musical that has never been filmed yet? After seeing the abysmal Oscars, one bright moment was Anne Hathaway. How about her in "Promises, Promises" with Adrien Brody?

Nope, ljay, they're gonna update it, which is their first mistake.
Am I just supposed to assume that the article got it wrong and Gyllenhaal is playing Hardy? There's no way he's playing Boyd, that's ridiculous. Unless their doing a makeup-fatsuit-double-cast-transformation thing.

this is NOT the first movie version of Damn Yankees fflagg.
It was done in the 50s with Gwen Verdon.

Personally I think this casting is brilliant.
I think I'd like to see Brittany Murphy or if they want to go in a completely different direction, Halle Berry
I'm not going by singing voice, even though Murphy has a fabulous voice.
...everyone was doing the mambo and drinking golden cadillacs...

I'll bet Katie Holmes gets Lola.
Not that I'm abig fan of her talent or anything, but I think she would look great with Gyllenhaal, and with her highly press-covered run in All My Sons just ending, she has a Broadway buzz about her. Plus, her song-and-dance vamp performance on "Eli Stone" this past season will put her to the forefront in casting directors minds.

I also think Cameron Diaz stands a great chance.
I'm not really sure who I would choose to cast as Lola - most of the first names that come to mind are too old now (Zeta-Jones, Salma Hayek, Jane Krakowski) or will have come fresh off of doing a musical and will not likely take another one (Penelope Cruz).
As per other roles, I vote Ana Gasteyer or Anne Hathaway to play Gloria.
any suggestions for Meg? I can't think of any, outside of Kristin Chenoweth, who seems a little young-looking. I'd love to see Audra McDonald do it, if they cast it colorblind.
Cheno would actually make an amazing Sister, though.

who else read this and had the horrible thought that it was Maggie Gyllenhaal as Lola?
Carrey actually has a good singing voice (most recently in Yes Man) so I can live with him in the role. A few suggestions for Lola;
Nicole Kidman
Catherine Zeta Jones
Anne Hathaway
Beyonce

Nicole Kidman lacks all the sultriness to play Lola.
Salma Hayek doesn't look old at all, if you've seen her in 30 ROCK you'll see how sexy she looks. I can definitely see her play Lola. Her "Whatever Lola Wants" would be fantastic since she is a great comedic actress. I can really visualize her in the part.
