Boyhood has the buzz right now, but I'm also in the camp that doesn't see the Academy awarding it the Oscar.
The Imitation Game isn't even in my top 10 for the year.
I feel very differently about Boyhood. I had the feeling that time was flying by very quickly, precisely as time often feels in real life. I could never have gotten that feeling in a divided format like a miniseries.

I was angered by IMITATION GAME. Somehow the play BREAKING THE CODE from the 80's was more daring and complete than this straight-splained version of Turing's life. He deserves far, far better.
I've yet to see BOYHOOD. It has hit iTunes as of yesterday, I believe, so I'll see if they're offering a 'rent' option and watch it tonight.
A Most Violent Year and Selma did not get their screeners sent out in time before the deadline. That is most likely the reason they are nowhere to be found in the SAG nominations.
And I stand by the idea that Boyhood will win Best Picture. I suspect it will take three Oscars. Perhaps even four.
"Moore should have won for THE HOURS, one of the most shocking and obscene mis-steps in Oscar history."
Could Moore's performance in THE HOURS be the most spot on portrayal of clinical depression ever given?
The Globes have announced their noms.
**YAWN**
Golden Globes
I'm not yawning, I'm thrilled this morning! I'm so happy that BOYHOOD was remembered in pretty much every single catagory as well as THE GOOD WIFE. And if Matt Bomer doesn't win this award for THE NORMAL HEART, there is no justice.
Oh Golden Globes, while I am happy with a lot of the noms…where is Timothy Spall? His performance in Mike Leigh's very original Mr. Turner, was reminiscent of the great Charles Laughton. Here's hoping he gets an oscar nod. Also, how in the comedy/music nominations could they ignore Chadwick Boseman for his phenomenal portrayal as James Brown. Ah well…happy to see Quvenzhané Wallis for Annie. She was the only bright spot, in a pretty dismal film.

Jennifer Aniston really is on a roll lately. This role has been like Julia Roberts's and Sandra Bullock's roles in 'Erin Brockovich' and 'The Blind Side' respectively. I'm glad to see 'Into the Woods' get some more recognition. Bill Murray was fantastic in 'St Vincent' and the film was terrific. Quvenzhane Wallis's nomination is a little surprising, but she's a way better actress than Aileen Quinn. Helen Mierren's nomination is more surprising to me. I was expecting Kiera Knightley to be nominated for 'Begin Again' instead of her.

You realize of course that Maggie Smith appeared on American television without receiving a Golden Globe nomination.
How'd that happen?

With the exception of the SELMA love--which is a welcome surprise, particularly DuVernay being recognized--the Golden Globe nominations are pretty much as expected. With a minor exception here and there, I don't think the Oscar nominations will vary much from what we've already seen.
Roscoe, I think you articulated perfectly why I am skeptical that BOYHOOD will actually win Best Picture at the Oscars. I say it gets the consolation prize--Original Screenplay--and Arquette wins Best Supporting Actress, but I think the industry tide will shift towards a safer option (something like THE THEORY OF EVERYTHING).
I can't, as of now, see Boyhood taking screenplay over Birdman. The Academy is often more inclined to reward a film like Birdman in that category.

I think folks might be overconfident about how well BIRDMAN will perform, too. It's not the kind of fare that's embraced by the Academy's older voters, and they're a major voting bloc.
THE THEORY OF EVERYTHING feels like this year's BEAUTIFUL MIND to me. I think it will win big, despite being mostly ignored by the critics awards.
'THE THEORY OF EVERYTHING feels like this year's BEAUTIFUL MIND to me.'
Good lord, that's the most depressing sentence. I wouldn't call that a ringing endorsement.
"I think folks might be overconfident about how well BIRDMAN will perform, too."
I don't think it'll take Best Picture as of now, but Keaton and Screenplay are fairly safe bets. They did award Spike Jonze in the latter category last year, after all- and for a quiet, soft sci-fi meditation on technology and loneliness.

I was disappointed to see 'Chef' snubbed. That was one of my favorite movies of the year.
How wonderfully refreshing this year not to have the same old nominees for Best Drama and Comedy series!
"I was disappointed to see 'Chef' snubbed."
Oh no, here we go with all the "snub"s. I enjoyed Chef a lot, but compared to some of these other movies, I don't know that I'd expect it to be racking up nominations...
Very glad that BIRDMAN got a good amount and hurrah for INTO THE WOODS and it's three nominations.
I was THRILLED that PRIDE got a nomination...though I'm not sure about it's classification as a comedy. I was sobbing at the end. Like...COLOR PURPLE ugly cry.
Delighted for Tim Spall but he'll always be a radish

Robbie, you and me both. Thrilled PRIDE got noticed by the Globes (though I'm still praying BIRDMAN gets the win for comedy-- my favorite movie of the year by a wide margin.)
