Ok folks. What are the fun places to go to these days? I know about Therapy. But ther has to be more. I want fun friendly places. I have enough of the stand and pose crowd here in LA. And also.. those Splash still do musical theater nights on Monday evenings?

you want gay musical theatre piano bar every night of the week.. marie's crisis.
Take me on a day to day basis. If you were goingout every night of the week tell me where you would go each night??
The Monster :)
The Monster's still around? wow...
Love the Monster. I once got very lucky there.. come on people.. there has to be more.
I used to like Marie's, but I don't go out to gay places anymore.

haha munk... i've been to marie's maybe 3 times in my life and it's fun... as a once every so often place i like it... i'd probably not if i went there every week like some friends i know who live in nyc.
Well, you've got Marie's every night, you can always go to the Duplex (and the mostly Sondheim singing thing in the cabaret room on Friday nights is fun), Therapy, Barrage (both in midtown), Barracuda and XL in Chelsea (Avoid G if you're annoyed by the posing crowd)...X/ES is supposedly good but I've only been once and it was kind of blah that night.
Dame darling,
I can give you tips on most things in this city.
The best thing for you to do is to call Urban Outings.
It is a group for gay men. They have all kinds of activities for gay men. One of the activities is going to happy hours.
I know this as I host theater events for them.
Give them a call.

Monster-- troll central
Marie's Crisis-- see above and as a bonus, a really ugly and claustrophobic atmosphere. No wonder Marie has a crisis.
The Townhouse-- see above, except nicely dressed older men. BONUS--the men under 30 are 'entrepenuerial businessmen.'
The Duplex-- **The WINNER**
I have to say that I really like XES. Every time I've been there, it has been a very fun crowd, and I end up talking to new people. Also, they have a great outdoor area which will be a lovely alternative in warmer months. The drinks are good and happy hour goes til 9pm.
I went to Splash recently for the first time in a long time and realized why I never go there anymore. Icky icky vibe, the drinks are absolutely DISGUSTING, and overpriced.
Agreed about Splash. **ick** factor times a hundred.
Where is XES? Are there any C&W bars/dance clubs in NYC? I tend to like the music better than the typical House/Techno/Trance crap.
XES is on 24th bet. 6th and 7th. It's a tiny little entrance near 7th Ave.
They usually play a variety of pop music there, not so much techno.
Don't know of any gay C&W bars, but let me pre-warn you in case you see Rawhide and think it's C&W. It's actually a leather bar.
I'm dying to hear someone's opinion of GYM, the new gay sports bar in Chelsea...I don't actually personally possess enough testosterone to go there myself, but I'm curious...besides, I'm too busy going to Marie's four times a week.
A friend of mine just went to GYM. He said it wasn't really sports bar-ish at all. He described it as kind of like Splash, except they have a row of flat-screen tvs playing sports. Yawn.
they tried it fifteen years ago with Champs, another 'gay sports bar.' That was an impossible idea to execute obviously, so it quickly became a 'dance club.' However, i do remember getting jock itch in the Champs mens room.
GYM sounds nausea-inducing at the very least. I really hate that whole straight scting/appearing-only A&F fratboy wannabe thing. Why bother coming out if you just bring your closet with you?

what if there actually IS a gay guy that appears to be straight. i mean, if that's WHO he is...that's who he is. Just as any homosexual begs America to believe. "Accept me for who I am", right?
So we shouldn't make ANY blanket statements. Acceptance...what a novel idea. But only when it's in favor of you? Not fair. People don't know that I'm gay right off the bat...not because I hide it or because I'm ashamed of it. But just because I don't fit the stereotype (ie. Jack McFarland..whom I think is great, don't get me wrong), they don't KNOW by looking at me. Am I still 'in the closet' because people can't just make ASSUMPTIONS about me? I sure hope not. Because I'm proud of who I am. If ANYONE asks me, they get a straight answer (please excuse the pun); so, in closing, not everyone who doesn't FLIT around and say FABULOUS and GORGEOUS all the time...is still in the closet. They just don't necessarily want to portray that particular image. I don't dislike that; it's just not ME. And I think that's okay.
Mister Matt, that has to be the most staggeringly negative statement I have read on these boards in quite some fortnights.

haha, i DEFINITELY would NEVER call me "butch". And none of my friends would either. hahaha...ever. :) I still, to this day, can't step outside without shoes on. I dance around my house. I have WAYYY more showtunes in my car than other genres. I cry...a lot. hahaha...no def. not butch. Just not...the other extreme of the spectrum either.
