Is it worth it to buy an Ipod? I am thinking about shelling out the $300, but would love to hear some opinions (pros and cons) from people who have one already.

My iPod has changed my life. I can't imagine being without her. Trust me, it's some of the best money you could ever spend on yourself.

i. love. my. ipod. it's permanately attached to my ears when i'm not near my computer. and no hauling my entire CD collection around when i want a full selection. it's incredibly easy to use, and holds more music than you know what to do with.

I think it's definitely worth it; it's easy and convenient... and if you travel, you can take one tiny, little thing rather than a billion CD's. I <333333333333 my iPod.

It's the single most amazing thing I have ever purchased.

I'm listening to it right now, as a matter of fact

I want one. Then I won't have to carry any CDs around. Also convienent if I lose a CD (unless I lose the I-Pod).

I had a 20-gig precursor to the iPod called the Rio Riot, which finally broke down. It was 3x the size and weight of an iPod.

Eager for a teeny-tiny MP3 player, I was going to buy a 4-gig iPod mini, but switched at the last minute to a 5-gig Rio Carbon.

My bf has the 40-gig iPod and swears by it. He has entire operas on it and he still has room.

I have 50+ entire cast recordings in mine not to mention hundreds of other CD's and haven't even reached 30% of it's capacity.

Thanks for all the good messages! Does anyone have anything bad to say about them? (if not, cool, I'm just trying to figure out my options)

I have a mini (green) and I could NOT live without it for the first few months I had it and now I barely ever use it. Maybe thats just me though.

I briefly tried another high-capacity player before I got an iPod, and had to return it because of a bad headphone jack. And that pretty much sums up why the iPod is preferable- it's just higher quality. The click wheel is really easy to use, and the software is well-designed and simple to use. The other high-capacity players I've seen don't seem to have gotten that down yet.

i've never had a problem with it. granted, i've only dropped it once, with the iSkin on it, but still no major problems for the 8 months i've had it.

i believe it has frozen once or twice, but this can be expected from all electronic devices. my computer, cell phone, ipod, etc. all freeze. out of all my electronics, my ipod has frozen the least.

the only concern i have is that the battery doesn't last a full 8 hours, only around 6, but i never listen to it this much in one day. i charge it each night, so this isn't a problem for me. Updated On: 12/18/04 at 12:03 AM

Oh, yeah. Battery life is the only major issue I have, because sometimes I have wanted to listen to it that much. Like when I worked next door to a lady who played Lite FM all summer. Or when I was sitting by an obnoxious gum-chewer in the library when I studied for finals.

Anyone have any opinions on the Dell DJ thing? I dont remember the exact name. My father had me order one online for myself yesterday (thats how Christmas shopping goes in my house lol).

i was all set to get the dell DJ, cause i heard the ipod had too many bugs. i read an article in the NY times comparing 6 different MP3 players, and i read that the DJ has ever MORE bugs. of course, this is regarding older generations, so the bugs could be fixed, but i opted for the ipod for this reason.

i also prefer itunes to the musicmatch jukebox. Updated On: 12/18/04 at 12:15 AM

Definitely get an ipod. If y ou'regoing to shell out all that money, don't go the mini route - get the larger ones. I could fill a mini up in an hour.
