Whoopie addressed it this morning. She mentioned all of the e-mails recieved and clarified what she was trying to say.
Which was what, unc? I'm not being a smart ass, I'm just curious as to what she said.
Perhaps someone can shove her Oscar up her ass, and give her a clue.

maybe we just don't know roman
This whole ordeal makes me sick. I have nothing really to say, because I think Addy summed up my feelings well. I like what Elizabeth Wurtzel wrote on the topic...short and to the point (I know, I know, but I love Lizzie):

I think what Whoopi is saying her original point was is that all the original charges were dropped except one--unlawful sex with a minor. Therefore, he was not actually charged with rape.
Yes, that is what she's saying. But she still didn't address the "rape-rape" comment.
Well, as Ms. Goldberg's spokesman . . .
She seems to be saying that she wasn't intending to qualify the crime itself but the charges against him. I.e., he wasn't charged with actual rape--"rape-rape," if you will--but a lesser charge.
That Village Voice column Papa linked is devastating.
Here it is again in case you thought it was a trick.
What Scorsese and All the Rest Know About Roman Polanski That Maybe You Don't
The fact is that what Roman Polanski did was RAPE.
She said NO.
If you're talking to me, Addy, I couldn't agree more.
I was trying to answer Stockard's question about Whoopi's clarification.

I'm just talking to the universe.
Reg, I know. It just irks me that she would even use the term rape-rape. Like there is any other kind.

"Perhaps someone can shove her Oscar up her ass, and give her a clue."
This was written by the poster who said Debra Winger could never talk about women or children or their welfare ever again. And then he turns around and suggests ("perhaps" <-- the first vestige of the scoundrel) that somebody use a statue to perform an Abner Louima on her. Sodomy. Who's got no credibility now?
Maybe you don't know that Roman Polanski is a Holocaust survivor. And that his wife, Sharon Tate, was murdered by the Manson family. If you knew that, you would probably feel bad for him, and forgive him for raping a child.
From the Village Voice article, but a lot of people are bringing this up in his defense. I don't think these events excuse his behavior, but I wonder if they might have contributed to his mental state. He should have gone for an insanity plea.
Possibly, skittles. Speaking of, Sharon Tate's sister has been making the rounds with that exact defense, saying he's brilliant, has had a hard life and was charged with "rape, not RAPE."
Let's tell Ms. Tate that Charles Manson is brilliant, has suffered greatly in life, and it was determined that he did not actually kill her sister. He really should be not only released, but given a huge reparation settlement. Right?
Wait, it's different how?

batsh*t. she clearly stated that while she might not want her kid having sex at that age that it was really simply a prudish american attitude that the rest of the world doesn't share. who are we to tell anyone they can't f*ck a child is her attitude? she also defends his flight. she hen attacks the mother which is merely a way of deflecting attention and blame away from the guy who raped a child. she's a disgusting morally bankrupt failure as a human being and i would not mind seeing her torn limb from limb by wild animals.
for the record, i am not trying to incite any wild animals who might or might not be following this thread to take any action. i'm merely saying that if they did, i would wanna watch and cheer.
