The All Stars girls are going to be rocking Iconic looks from the VMAs at tonight's VMAs. So far PhiPhi's going to be Gaga, Ginger's going to be doing Madonna.
Phi Phi's makeup as Gaga @ VMAs was actually really impressive. That's a the first time she hasn't looked like... Phi Phi. I've been following her on her 365 Days Of Drag and she doesn't do this great even there.

I can't imagine Roxxy and Phi Phi really succeeding at renovating their awful reputations. I know editing creates total fiction, but they still both seem like negative, nasty pieces of work, particularly when compared to queens with senses of humor like Katya and Alaska.
Phi Phi in particular is so uncomfortable to watch. I can feel her trying so desperately to be in CONTROL. Every time she's on screen I'm wondering if she's gonna crack and let the demon out again. I don't trust RoXy as far as I could throw her but I appreciated her coming to Jesus about her wretched ways on season 5. It'll be interesting to see if either one has actually changed. I'm not holding my breath.
I'm not a big fan of RoXy, but I get the appeal. I watched the season premiere with my parents (who are 62 and 76!), and mom adored RoXy, while my dad was living for Tatianna! My favorite talents were Tatianna and RoXy, but Alyssa was a close third (second-alternate?) for me! Detox continues to be solid, but I didn't get the appeal in season five and I still don't.
My top three picks are still Alaska, Katya, and Alyssa, but I'd be happy to see Tatianna and Ginger do well!

Tonight was honestly one of the best episodes of all time. Alyssa and Alaska had me in TEARS. Was surprised Alyssa wasn't in the top. I guess Mommie Dearest is a bit 101 but she seriously had me and Ru cackling. I thought Ginger bombed a bit.
So nice to see that Phi Phi really has changed...not.
Didn't know Alaska had it in her to pull off such a complete Mae West-- full marks to her, fairly earned! But to see her as such a wet noodle backstage deliberating between which bottom-girl to kick off-- well gosh, girl, show a little life and drag-wit please. Throw some shade if you like. Anything but be the depressive valley girl with the shredded voice tics that we had a hard time with back during your original season.
Is anyone else surprised that Katya, sweet as she is, was the co-finalist of the night? I for one found her Bjork utterly unfunny (and I usually love Katya's sense of humor.) I think she could really have rocked a Melania Trump (but I supposed this was all recorded well before the GOP convention).
My biggest disappointment was reserved for my girl Ginger-- she should have had us peeing our pants over Tammy Faye, but seems she never wrote any good jokes for Ms Baker. Fine -- knock us dead next week, Miss Thing, and all will be forgiven.
I for sure thought Alyssa would have been in the top three. As someone who doesn't do celebrity impersonations often, she did a fantastic job visually and in terms of her performance. PLUS, she had Ru (and Rujubee!) cackling. I agreed with *SPOILER* Alaska and Katya on top, but I would have put Alyssa up there over Phi Phi.
And yes, I was disappointed in Ginger too. She was not bad, but there wasn't that magical spark I felt watching some of the other ladies. Detox was easily my least favorite Snatch Game performance (maybe future ladies should avoid Nancy Grace?), with RoXy being a close second. Tatiana may not have had humor, but she had the illusion and the characteristics down. That being said, Detox was easily redeemed by her runway look. RoXy looked pretty and all, but I would have sent her home.

Poor dimbulb Roxxy, actually getting gaslit by Pheces O'Hara. The resulting attempt at doing Alaska has to be one of the worst Snatch Game performances in history. She should have been sent packing for that one, instead of Tatiana. Alyssa's Joan Crawford had nothing to do with Joan Crawford but had a bizarre energy that made it go over more successfully than RuPaul's really phony-seeming laughter at every single thing Alyssa did.
Alaska's sublime Mae West was a joy to behold. She should win the whole thing, no question.

1) I had sympathy for Adore at first; I mean, I think Visage is a crass, relatively talentless never-was who browbeats everyone around her and can't see any validity in anyone else's point of view. Adore has developed a specific style; you may not like it, but to constantly call her "wrong" for it is just tiresome. (How many different silhouettes has RuPaul ever worked?) BUT then Adore whined just 1 too many times "I think I have to goooooo...." as though she wanted to be talked out of it, but the deed was done. So just GO!
2) Seeing again that Phi Phi and RoXy haven't changed at all, and are just two nasty pieces of unfunny work.
3) Alaska's Lament, as noted above; then choosing her former pal RoXy over poor Tati; it's hard to make it look like anything other than favoritism.
4) Visage calling Tati's latex outfit "basic," and loving Alaska's, although they weren't terribly different (Alaska had slightly edgier make-up, but Tati's dress had more details).
Conversely, Alyssa and Alaska were comic gold in the Snatch Game, and I found Katya pretty funny, too. Too bad about everyone else.
Yeah, all in all I wasn't thrilled with the episode. These are 90 minutes long now so there was no reason to only have about 7 minutes worth of the Snatch Game shown. And as much as I dislike Phi-Phi, I thought her character was hilarious last night.
But man, I'm bummed about my Tati. RoXy truly should have gone home for that.
Alaska's clothing wasn't that interesting, but the look as a whole was so on point and felt different for her. Tatianna's was pretty much what I'd expect her to wear, much as I like her.
Genuinely don't understand how Alyssa wasn't Top 3. I guess it wasn't a great Joan Crawford in terms of accurate impression, but I was howling at her. She picked a character that played to her natural strength of intense face making, and it worked perfectly. Phi Phi was boring and had one joke that she repeated over and over. Honestly though, we're all just waiting until it's down to Katya and Alaska, right? Who else is better?
I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.
Did the producers know Adore was going to leave before shooting this episode? Her departure left them with an even 8 instead of 9 for the Snatch Game. Interesting.

I don't think they knew, but I think they suspected what was probably going to happen following Adore's breakdown during deliberation and they decided to do that revenge thing for the eliminated queens. Start it with Coco and if she doesn't end up walking they just wouldn't show it.
Detox is just looking so Jack Nicholson "The Joker" that its off putting to watch her!
Well I didn't want to get into it, but he's a Satanist.
Every full moon he sacrifices 4 puppies to the Dark Lord and smears their blood on his paino.
This should help you understand the score for Wicked a little bit more.

Another strange episode last night. Katya definitely sabotaged herself, but in her defense, who on earth thought that you can make Princess Di funny?!? Clearly the gals knew their characters before arriving (having come with ready made costumes), but did they choose who to be, or were the roles assigned? And did Lucian Piane write that dreadful... medley?
Alyssa really has become tremendously entertaining to watch, instead of just a lovable nitwit, like she was during her DR season. Phi Phi is still an annoying twerp. Good runway look, though.
Newintown- the queens were assigned their historical figures ahead of time. The contestants are typically told a number of challenges and runway themes in advance so they can prepare appropriate outfits. I believe I've seen elsewhere that Tatianna, for instance, said she'd been assigned Joan of Arc.
Katya was really given the shortest end of the stick possible. The worst song (and that's saying something), the historical figure least conducive to a drag character, stand-in-place choreo. Who on Earth would put Lady Di in that lineup?
That being said, keeping her was the right call. Ginger Minj is a contestant who is perpetually safe and never really daring or inventive- I felt that way in her season, too. Her runway looks this season have been decidedly "meh."
Alyssa walked away with this episode. She knows exactly what makes good reality television- and Phi Phi can fume all she wants about it.
