We are so screwed...anyone have any good news as to why we're not?
RIP, thank you for your service to your country.
Justice Ginsburg was a true operaphile. A few years ago, she appeared in "The Daughter of the Regiment". In this clip, I have to believe that the cheers and applause heard at the end were as much for what she represented for women, as for what she said.
She was a HUGE supporter of the arts in DC. I had the privilege of seeing her three times in separate occasions, once in the audience at a show at the Kennedy Center and twice at shows at Signature Theatre. My heart is heavy by such a powerful loss as this.
TEN MINUTES after her death was announced the Sad Turtle F*ck made this announcement:
"President Trump's nominee will receive a vote on the floor of the United State's Senate." - McConnell
In 2016 he blocked Obama's pick talking about how he didn't want to put someone in during an election year. Of course he did this bulls*it. He is sickening beyond measure.

She passed erev Rosh Hashonah. I can't even .
All I can pray is they will find away to delay the nomination process 4-5 weeks (which from my mouth to G*'ds ears) and that a change in the occupancy of 1600 Pennsylvania Ave will make any nominees moot. The alternative doesn't bear thinking about.
So sad. And in something that doesn't surprise me, the a$$ in the White House wants her replaced immediately.
According to reports, Justice Ginsburg dictated this statement, her dying wish, to her granddaughter:
"My most fervent wish is that I will not be replaced until a new President is installed."
This is sad and scary as hell. I hope every single one of you is not only voting for Biden, but doing the work to make sure those in red and swing states are too. Write post cards, write reps and senators in all 50 states. Demand arts funding and transparency with the election. Mourn tonight, action tomorrow. We are on the brink of fascism.

I have donated to the Biden campaign, sent letters, signed petitions and am looking into working the polls on election day.
Tonight I just shut completely down. Turned everything off but some quiet music and slipped off to sleep for a while. I then deactivated my facebook account. The nastiness that was popping up everywhere, including on my friend's posts announcing Justice Ginsburg's death, just sent me over the edge.
She was inspiring to both genders and contributed so much....RIP

A few points. First, Republicans will argue that this upcoming election may have some issue (exp. Gore vs Bush) that will be up to the Supreme Court to decide and having a 4-4 vote would put the country in Constitutional crisis. The vacancy would need to be filled to prevent that from happening. IMO the Republicans are pretty spineless for the most part and you will get Senators like Murkowski, Romney, Collins etc who may not support filling the vacancy now. Yes, I think Garland should have gotten a up and down vote years ago. That being said, when McConnell said it was up to the next POTUS to decide did anybody really think it would not be Hillary Clinton including McConnell -lol. Finally, McConnell should have shown a little class and waited until Justice Ginsburg was buried before talking about replacement.
The fastest a SCOTUS pick has ever happened is something like 65 days and we’re 45 days out from the election. I think Biden needs to make it clear that if they do this in a lame duck session, if he wins he will abolish the filibuster (which he should do anyways) and add seats to the court.
Yankeefan7, that is really what got me. I had a literal physical reaction to that and and to lay down. There is something very wrong with our system in that they have been able to get away with all they have without being stopped.

Exactly this. If they move forward with a nomination the Dems need to start playing on their level and abolish the filibuster and add seats to the court when they take control of the Senate.
My biggest fear right now is the court hearing cases without a replacement. Justice Roberts has been joining the liberal justices in some key decisions. His vote won't be enough anymore and there are some major cases coming up. And the possibility of this court deciding the election terrifies me.
Justice Ginsburg's husband, Martin, was an Army Reservist and is buried at Arlington National Cemetery. She will be buried by his side in a private service. There has not been an announcement yet (I believe) of a public funeral or memorial. The spontaneous gathering of hundreds of people at the Supreme Court building Friday night was very moving.
“For those of you who are unsure how to answer, or for those inclined to oppose giving a nominee a vote, I urge you all to keep your powder dry,” McConnell (R-Kentucky) wrote. “This is not the time to prematurely lock yourselves into a position you may later regret.”
Yeah, Mitch has shown he has no class or humanity. We just need 4 GOP members to vote no. Mitt Romney already stated he would vote no, I think Lindsey Graham did as well.
Update: Lindsey went back on his word and is now on board with his party. Vote all these f*cks OUT.

Republican Senator Susan Collins:
"The decision on a lifetime appointment to the Supreme Court should be made by the President elected on November 3rd"
UPDATE: Now there seems to be some confusion as to whether she would vote NO if the vote was taken before the election.
Whatever they may have said previously, they WILL be told how they will vote or face the wrath of their Republican masters. And yes, they will do their masters bidding.

You've been here long enough to know they aren't. Beware of fascists in centrist costumes. (Lookin at the pinstripes)
