Liza, I adored the first two seasons of The Killing. I'm sure you've heard about the reaction that many had to the S1 finale. I won't say more than that about that episode, but I was shocked at how outraged so many of the shows viewers appeared to be. I think it received way too much unfair criticism for the unexpected nature of that episode. But if you end up being in the majority and end up feeling duped by the s1 finale, I'd encourage you to stick with it as the s2 finale is a total knock out. One of the best hours of TV I've ever seen.

Oh, HT, now I am nervous about it! I'm on Episode 9 now. Only a few more left until the finale... I will let you know what I think.
Please do! You might end up caught up on the first three seasons by the time the fourth and final season debuts on Netflix later this year.

I'm nearly done with Season Two but just realized I forgot to follow up. HT, the S1 finale didn't actually bother me too much. I read through articles from the time it came out after the fact and was surprised to see so much anger. Didn't really bother me too much.
About to find out if it was Gwen or Jamie....or someone else, maybe?! Really enjoy S2 except for Richmond's hospital scenes. Boring me to tears.
The Guild is a great webseries that has been added to Netflix Instant. Each season is only about an hour to an hour and a half. So you could get through the whole series in a day.

Eris. Sorry if I sound dumb, but what's the difference between Netflix and Netflix Instant??
Netflix Instant is the streaming part.

Oh, jeeze. I forgot they still do DVDs.. All I use is the Instant and didn't even realize there was a difference!
The Kathleen Hanna documentary, The Punk Singer, is now on Instant. Very good. It's 20 Feet From Stardom but focuses on the key figure in Riot Grrrl.
Also, you could do an Altman double-feature with 3 Women and The Long Goodbye. Just sayin'.
Happy Valley on Netflix. Highly recommended. Short 6-episode BBC series set in Yorkshire. Gritty atmosphere. Sharply drawn (and emotionally compelling characters) and some very clever writing that unravels a series of unfortunate events connected to an illegitimate birth, a suicide, a botched kidnapping. Sarah Lancashire, from Last Tango in Halifax, is really excellent in the lead role. For fans of addictive, atmospheric mysteries ala Broadchurch, The Killing, The Fall.
I just finished binge watching UGLY BETTY a few days ago. I had seen the show up till the 5th episode of season 2, but decided to get back into it during my winter break- only to find out that it was leaving Jan. 4, So i spent most of my break watching it and was able to finish the series. (I have to say that the whole Justin coming out story line was stupid and way overdue.)
I just now finished watching POLITICAL ANIMALS and really enjoyed the Mini-Series. Having just recently got Netflix, i am still discovering what all it has to offer. I plan on watching DAMAGES and QUEER AS FOLK next. I got my mother hooked on AMERICAN HORROR STORY so she has been watching that every free moment she has. She is ready to see the 4th season, but i have warned her that it is a lot more boring then the first three.
Black Mirror is good, though really depressing.
I'm almost done watching the Duchess. It's pretty good, though you have to like period pieces.
Phineas and Ferb is always hysterically funny, but about as dry as they come.
Also Parks and Recreation
Death Note is Anime, so it's pretty ridiculous at times (I'll take a potato chip... AND EAT IT!!), but it's actually pretty good. It's the only non-Studio Ghibli anime I actually enjoy.
"Archer" and "Mystery Science Theater 3000."
Currently PERSON OF INTEREST, last month FRINGE.
I really LOVED Black Mirror. The first episode is one of the most riveting hours of television I've ever seen. Depressing? I guess so. But thought provoking. There's only 6 episodes so it makes for easy binge watching.
I also really liked Borgia. The Netflix version..not the Jeremy Irons one.
Anyone watching Marco Polo?
I too just finished The Black Mirror series. Some wonderfully cynical writing! I agree with the first one being riveting. I laughed at first at the premise but as the story went on it became harrowing!
The first episode is what I use as my reference to it being so depressing, as well as the Christmas episode. It's good, but I can only watch one episode at a time to avoid getting so sad.

The Christmas episode isn't up on Netflix yet. That's the only one I haven't seen.
Also..I read they are making "The Entire History of You" episode into a full length feature.

I watched 2 seasons of INK MASTER these past two days. I love that show so much.

Check out Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries. Essie Davis (Babadook) is luminous in it.
I can't recommend Bojack Horseman highly enough.
BoJack Horseman is brilliant. Takes a turn in the second-half that mixes The Comeback and Enlightened in pitch black darkness and emotional understanding of its character. Finding out the creator is a huge fan of those shows was not at all shocking. Great voice work by Will Arnett, Aaron Paul, Amy Sedaris, Alison Brie, and Paul F. Tompkins.
Missed the original responses to Polanski's adaptation of Venus in Fur, but to me it reached career peaks for him this 21st century, and I very much liked The Pianist and The Ghost Writer. In a fair world, Emmanuelle Seigner would be having Oscar buzz.
Double-feature recommendation: Jem Cohen's Museum Hours and Aleksandr Sokurov's one of a kind single take spectacle at The Hermitage, The Russian Ark.
