This current PNC Broadway in Pittsburgh season, especially the second half, was/is amazing. I'm grateful for anything that comes through that I haven't seen, so if my move to NC falls through I'll definitely see several of those. I was incredibly disappointed in the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra's 2017/2018 Grand Classics and PNC Pops series. At least with the new PNC Broadway in Pittsburgh season I still have a reason to travel the 4-hour round-trip drive.
As for the avatar: Thank you. I love, love, LOVE the Benedum Center for the Performing Arts. Such a gorgeous, grand lady. Heinz Hall is not to shabby either, but I much prefer the Benedum.
I totally agree re: preferring the Benedum. So many find memories too, including my very first professional show.

Excited for Hamilton, School of Rock, and The King and I but probably won't be getting season tickets as I have zero interest in The Bodyguard or On Your Feet and I am already seeing Hamilton in Chicago next month.
I am excited that Book of Mormon is coming back, as well as Phantom and Sound of Music!

The 5th Ave in Seattle announced we are getting Something Rotten. That's the only tour that will visit in the 2017/2018 season but a strong season otherwise. We are getting the out of town tryout for a new musical called Intermission.

Is the Sound of Music tour going non-equity/scaling down? The promo images for it on the Fox website aren't of the current cast and it's only stopping here for two days. I'm just hoping the sets are the same. Somebody once posted on here that the sets looked cheap to them, but I thought they were grand and beautiful.

The Sound of Music Tour is going Non-Equity next season. The equity tour closes July 23 in Cleveland, and the new cast starts rehearsal a week later. Probably scaled down from 6 trucks to 3, but no confirmation on that at this point.

Anybody have a list or know what tours are closing this season?
The ONCE tour is closing in May.

Still being new to a lot of this, is it standard practice to scale down non-Equity "Broadway National Tours" by half? Or are they no longer "officially" considered "Broadway" National Tours being non-Equity? What's the reason/purpose of scaling down?

Non-Equity tours are designed to be able to load in, do one or two performances, and load out in one day. So they will be smaller than a tour that is generally mean to be in one venue for a week or more by necessity.
Most venues will still market them as the "Broadway" tour, since that is the label that sells. It's a huge sticking point for Equity, since presenters are typically charging the same prices for non-Equity tours as they are for Equity tours, even though the actors in non-Equity tours are receiving significantly lower salaries and per diems, and are rarely (practically never) given benefits such as health insurance, pension benefits, vacation pay, sick pay, or many other work place protections (such as rules regarding travel times and distances before and after performances).

Super excited that the season consist of 8 shows instead of the usual 7. Overall it was a great night with some pretty good live performances (especially from The Color Purple)
Really wanted School of Rock to come to Boston. Id assume its going to the Wang. Also, does anyone know if the Colonial is getting any shows this year? They did just get bought by a major british company so I wasn't sure if they can get shows because School of Rock would fit really well there. In general Im happy with Bostons season. No need for Phantom AND Love Never Dies but I guess I can deal.

The Colonial is going to undergo major renovations first so i'd expect no shows there for a while. The press release says they want to reopen for January 2018 but that would be aggressive.

While still owned by Emerson College, the Colonial Theater will be operated/managed by the Ambassador Theater Group, which previously acquired the Lyric and Hudson in NYC. According to an article in the Boston Globe a few months ago, "The company expects to open its inaugural season at the Colonial in January 2018."

I'm not thrilled w Boston either... Phantom and Love Never Dies, which I've never seen so I guess I'd try to go in with an open mind, but by most accounts on here it's a boring mess.... Also no interest in On Your Feet either. Broadway in Boston used to let you drop one show a season if you didn't want it, but they told me I couldn't drop it this year.. Prob because of Hamilton. I think it's getting more difficult to get a great season splitting shows w the Wang Center & Shubert now.

A much better season than I was expecting. Four shows I haven't seen and three I'd enjoy seeing again (some more than others).
Also, BoM is an extra, not part of the subscription.
