Does anyone really get excited about these 'live musicals' any more? Not me-but still read what others have to say.
I don't get to see them 'live' but have bought Sound of Music and Peter Pan on DVD--have yet to watch them and skip/read some threads about the broadcasts.
Rocky Horror intrigues as I remember sneaking out to watch the original as I knew Jim Sharman and Hairspray could be fun. Again--will wait for the DVD to reserve judgement.
Birdie was the first musical I ever saw in Brisbane Queensland/Australia--had a major affect on my life[style].
She has sung live on several occasions. She's not the strongest singer but maybe she'll work her butt off like Jake G. She'll certainly sound better than Gina Gershon and her grating vocals.
Rosie O'D. will prob want the role. I'd like someone like Conchata Ferrell or Kathy Bates (OOO that would be a scary MAMA!) I suspect she is done w performing but Betty White could have done this perfectly!
I actually think this is a great choice! This show has a bad rep cuz it's so commonly done in high schools, but I always enjoy it. I know he's super busy, but Lin Manuel would be a great Albert.
I really question the wisdom in following up HAIRSPRAY with another 1950s-60s themed musical. I also think nobody is going to be interested in BYE BYE BIRDIE. Would it really kill them do something that is contemporary?

I know the general consensus on this is "meh", but I am SO excited. Lopez is an excellent choice.

"I'm confused and shocked right now." Nothing about this is shocking or confusing. "
Exactly. If anything, this has been predicted since The Sound of Music!
On another note, it amazes me how rarely a Latina actress is cast in this fabulous role. From Janet Leigh, Ann Reinking, Vanessa Williams to Gina Gerson, it's pretty shocking. Jennifer is the right choice for this type of event, she can act, dance her ass off, now she just needs to get her vocals strong enough to sing a musical theater role that requires a fair amount of vocal versatility.
Exactly. Although Jennifer has successfully worked for NBC and FOX at the same time. But I would imagine a production of this nature would be way too much of a conflict with his CBS nightly show.
