Yeah, to be the only eligible person and for the Tony Voters to say “yeah....we’ll pass on that” is...sad.

Why bother posting in this thread if you think it's all stupid?
For those that didn't see it; Yes, Lightning Thief was that bad.

The nominees are;
Aaron Tveit- Moulin Rouge
Aaron Tveit- Moulin Rouge (because we feel like we owe him for Catch Me If You Can)
and Aaron Tveit (because we feel like we owe him for Next to Normal)"
Absolutely! That was a little awkward. But, Aaron is absolutely incredible in everything he does, so I'm just really happy he is getting one. Still my favorite Bobby in Company I've ever seen.

If he didn't deserve it, he wouldn't be nominated (as any Percy Jackson fan will be happy to tell you about)

It was like seeing a middle school production. Horrible.

I was in middle school when I saw it and I hated it. AND I liked Be More Chill.
Between “Be More Chill” and “Lightning Thief”, I’d actually be hard pressed to say which was worse.

Lightning Thief. Even if you didn’t like the text, the set and projection design was pretty cool.
It is a fact that there is no place on the Tony hardware for an asterisk so years from now when Aaron's grandchildren see the award on the mantle they will not have their awe dampened and that's all that really matters.

No it wasn’t.
“Be More Chill.”
Lighting Thief at least had a Paul Lynden impression.

Agreed. If nothing else, it would have added more variety to the musical categories.
This was just stupid. I get it, but it's stupid.

Love this idea! It's all strange, but might as well embrace it.

It was better than using toilet paper to simulate water.
It's also pretty funny that most shows wait until the spring to open to best their chances of Tony noms. This year, you were rewarded just because you opened BEFORE the spring.
Miscellaneous thoughts:
-Surprised "A Christmas Carol" was eligible for score even though it was mostly just re-arranged versions of existing Christmas music. Also surprised it wasn't eligible for Best Orchestrations (if it had been eligible, there would have been 4 nominees instead of 3). I'm also surprised it got left out for Best Play in lieu of Grand Horizons
-Delighted by the Best Score category. Not only is it a historic event, and not only did it rightfully leave out Lightning Thief, but it's also an important reminder about the validity of plays at the Tony Awards.
-I've said it many times before, but I'm going to keep saying it: GIVE JASON MICHAEL WEBB THE TONY FOR ROSE TATTOO. He totally deserves it.
-Sad to see Height of the Storm shut out entirely. I enjoyed it, and thought the 2 lead the performances were great. I would have nominated Atkins over Linney, for sure.
-Leading Actor in a Play: WOW, what a whirlwind of a category. The biggest disappointment for me is Michael Shannon losing out on a nom. Definitely thought he deserved it more than Barford and Burnap. But otherwise, what a fantastic set of nominees, and what a surprise to see 6 nominees in a year like this, but definitely well-deserved. The big question now: who will win this category? It's a real toss-up.
-All the musical categories: blegh. What a state we're in it.
-The musical acting categories are...ok. Not as infuriating as Best Musical and Best Book, but not great. Lots of performances that I thought were solid, but nothing special. Plus several performances that I thought were outright bad, especially from Jagged Little Pill. The only musical acting nominees that I thought were genuinely awards-worthy were Lauren Patten, and I guess Adrienne Warren (I love Warren, but I had issues with the direction that she was given, which hurt her performance for me)
-Leading Actor in a musical is hilarious. Personally, I hope they go all the way and don't give him the award. I understand many disagree, and that's totally fine. Everyone is entitled to their opinions, I just didn't like his performance personally.
-So delighted by all of the nominations for Sound Inside. Though I'm surprised it didn't get a scenic design nom. I didn't think A Soldier's Play deserved a Scenic nomination.
-Featured Actress in a Play: this category was all over the place, but I'm happy enough with the nominees. I was actually hoping for Cora Vander Broek to get in, but I didn't think she actually would. Surprised Ashley Park didn't get in though.
-I'm fairly happy with Featured Actor in a Play. Not all of them would have been my picks, but I think it's a strong category. I would have booted out David Alan Grier and replaced him with one of his costars, ideally J. Alphonse Nicholas or Nnamdi Asomugha.
-I'm very happy to see Ato Blankson-Wood get his first nomination, as he is one of the great rising stars of the theatre world. However, having seen him in several shows Off-Broadway, I don't necessarily think this was his best role or his best work to date.
If school drama programs ever return then The Lightning Thief will make some money back. Now someone needs to write parody lyrics to the song "Good Kid."
"I swear. I swear that I'm a good show! A GOOD SHOW!"

Exactly !! It is like I told my brother the other day, a baseball player with 2020 WS ring is not going to care years from now that it was only a 60 game season.
I honestly wonder if voters will solely consider Aaron Tveit’s Performance in Moulin Rougue, or more consider this does he deserve a career achievement award based on his path past performances. If voters think with the former I could see him not winning, just because I’m sure many of them think it’s stupid that only one person is nominated therefore they shouldn’t with an award for being the only person. If they go with the latter which I agree with I think his career in the theater is deserving of some recognition, especially his snub for his performance in Next to Normal. I also think it’s really in poor taste that the committee left to be in a lose lose situation Due to the to their decision not to nominate Chris McCarrell for Lightening Thief. Even in years where there are only two revivals of a musical and one is really bad they still nominate both. The same could be said of the best score category, which is happened in 2010. When we started to get the then thought to be filler Play score nominations, making it appear that Memphis didn’t win best score by default. Is having a nomination to your name so secret for Tony voters that I couldn’t stop this situation Where the Award itself is now considered illegitimate to many in the community.
SLAVE PLAY is now the most nominated play of all time with 12, beating the record set by the ANGELS IN AMERICA revival (which THE INHERITANCE tied at 11).
I wish Paul Alexander Nolan could’ve been part of the SLAVE PLAY love.

Well thank god America realized that Andrew Burnap gives a better performance than Kyle Soller!
I don't understand all the fun being had at Aaron Tveit's expense on this thread. He's not responsible for screwy decisions the Tony nominating committee made. He also received enough confidence in his work from his peers to be nominated. It's a career achievement for him and I don't think he should be knocked for it. Tveit's given much allegiance to the theater over the years and I think he deserves some recognition.
It’s not being had at his expense. There’s fun being had at the fact that the category has one nominee - big difference.

to quote George Washington in Hamilton, "not yet." He has to be affirmed by60% of the voters to win."
Wouldn't that be the upset of all time. Only nominee but didn't win because he didn't get 60% of the vote. :)"
Yikes... That would be humiliating.
