Is this the first time in history that the nominees for Best Score have solely been plays, no musicals? My hunch is that it is, but I'm too lazy to check.

JLP and Tina weren't nominated for Best Actor..."
Which makes sense considering they weren't eligible in those categories.
Also, what does Paul Alexander Nolan have to do to get nominated for a Tony. Almost the entire cast of Slave Play was nominated, but not Paul who was easily the best male performance in the show.
It'll be funny hearing Tveit's acceptance speech. "Thanks for the Tony even though I was the only one nominated".

Haha yup.... best actor in a lead in musical... was JUST Aaron.
This is all just beyond ****ing stupid. The fact that there are even nominees this year, let alone an awards ceremony, is ridiculous. The League should be ashamed.
I feel like they could have livened up best actor in a musical.
The nominees are;
Aaron Tveit- Moulin Rouge
Aaron Tveit- Moulin Rouge (because we feel like we owe him for Catch Me If You Can)
and Aaron Tveit (because we feel like we owe him for Next to Normal)
Even though there was obviously a lot of overlap for musicals, Jagged Little Pill leads with 15 nominations. 14 for Moulin Rouge and 12 for Tina.
I'm happy Kathryn Gallagher got a nomination. She deserved it and it probably wouldn't have happened "in real life."

True! They were in the midst of the design categories when I posted that for what it's worth.

to quote George Washington in Hamilton, "not yet." He has to be affirmed by 60% of the voters to win.
Oh wow this is a fun wild ride!

There won't be a 2020-2021 Broadway season, which then means no Tony Awards in 2021. Why make these shows wait until June 2022?
On another note, West Side Story should have been elilgible. It's crazy they'll have to wait now.

Wouldn't that be the upset of all time. Only nominee but didn't win because he didn't get 60% of the vote. :)
Lol I think it’s safe to say since he got enough votes to get a nomination, he’ll get enough to “win”.

I don’t understand why west side story and girl
From the north town weren’t nominated in any categories especially considering they had opened.
I know it would not be profitable, but this really makes me wish the scores to plays were recorded. I would love to be able to listen to "A Christmas Carol" and "Slave Play" in their score forms.
It’s very hard to take any of this seriously.

The fact that they *could* have tossed The Lightning Thief one nomination to give Aaron Tveit some competition and still didn’t is deeply hilarious.
We’re living in an episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm.

It’s been explained to death that both shows, though technically open, did not have enough time to allow nominators to see and judge their shows accordingly and the deadline for cutoff was moved back
To quote Harold from “The Boys in the Band”...”It’s mind boggling. It absolutely boggles the mind.”
Chalia La Tour for Featured Actress/Play was certainly an odd choice, and I would’ve given that slot to Ashley Park for Grand Horizons.
I’m a bit shocked that Kyle Soller didn’t sneak in Best Actor/Play over Tom Sturridge, but I’m THRILLED for Paul Hilton
Featured Actress/Musical has me a bit worried about Patten’s lock on it because of the three Jagged girls possibly splitting the vote
The biggest loser today is Aaron. If he wins (which is obviously likely) he'll always carry the burden of winning the default Tony - that everyone knows he never would have actually won in a regular season.
Updated On: 10/15/20 at 12:42 PMOh I don’t see it that way. He will always be the only actor to win with zero competition. He’s automatically a Jeopardy question so why not wear it with a badge of honor?

To me, that’s better than Chris McCarrell, who was shut out of a maximum two-man horse race.

I sympathize with the folks running the Tonys. There wasn't really a good option here, especially with any sort of Broadway reopening decidedly uncertain in terms of timing. But it all feels totally irrelevant.
On the bright side, I saw a Tony-nominated play on Broadway, with the choice of the revival of Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune - which wouldn't have happened if the season had played out normally. It all feels so long ago, because it was so long ago.
