Yup. And she has no semi-famous costar here (Michael Shannon). It’s a bizarre choice."
Correct. I guess they can only have one person doing a musical per household. Haha.
You mean the production of Raisin in the Sun that also had P-Diddy and Phylicia Rashad? I don't think McDonald was the one selling tickets there.
I don't know why someone calling him his old name made me laugh or imagining him being on Broadway made me smile. Ha. And no, Audra didn't sell tickets for that, nor was she ever the reason people watched Private Practice or any other tv role. The reason why people freak out and pay top dollar when she's in a musical is because of her perfect, glorious live singing that cannot be replicated by anyone on earth.
Ticket sales began yesterday for Ain't No Mo'; it will play a limited engagement through February 26.
TaffyDavenport reports that Weezer Presents SZNZ has been cancelled.
Slip-up on my part: The Piano Lesson is running through January 15 (rather than 1/8).

It's official now.

The script is only 38 pages?! Wild.

Are you sure? This will be its Broadway premiere.
It was published in 92 so…yes.
also, Ain’t No Mo isn’t a limited run. Just because it is on sale until X date does not mean it is a limited run

Yes. It’s extremely common for revivals to also be Broadway premieres. It’s become increasingly common especially in the past 7-8 years; there have been literally dozens of recent examples.
The play is 30 years old, and also had a major Off-Broadway production 15 years ago. Jeffrey Richards isn’t transferring the play to Broadway after a long gap - he’s taking an existing play and putting up a revival of it. So it’ll be considered a revival.
I didn't realize that Ain't No Mo' was an open run. I'm surprised to hear it, because it's not the norm for plays. But I guess it makes sense; they probably don't have any big stars to schedule around, and they probably don't anticipate being a major sell-out. So I guess they figure there's no point in giving themselves an arbitrary deadline to recoup.
But sadly, I don't see it selling very well, so it might end up being moot.

maybe slightly off the topic of this thread, apologize -- , but I am wondering how does open run or limited run affect the contract / pay, etc? it makes a difference at all?
To my knowledge, the only functional difference, naturally, is the length of the contract. If it’s an open run, the standard contract is 1 year, though it doesn’t have to be. Also, I don’t know for sure, I also wonder if the royalty structuring is different, given that a limited run doesn’t anticipate generating royalties for as long. Maybe some high-profile artists can negotiated higher initial fees to offset that - I don’t know.
keep an eye out for a Fat Ham transfer this season...

Still hoping we get some London imports up here on the boards - Life of Pi (playing in Boston at A.R.T. First), The Drfters Girl, the rumored Cabaret transfer (thought we would have heard something more by now) and my personal fave - the Chichester Crazy for You. And since it’s been a few years out now - and I light of unfortunate recent events - I’d love to see a big splashy Grease revival. No matter how often it plays, it’s a guaranteed crowd pleaser and popular ticket. Find the right rotating cast of popular young leads, give us some splashy new production values, and start ringing the cash registers. It’s one of the shows that man folks just never tire of.

I am hearing that Crazy For You is West End bound after its run in Chichester so I'd say its only a matter of time before it comes to Broadway.
The Drifters Girl should be an easy transfer, it's a very small cast and a really cute show.
Grease seems to be doing very well here in its limited run.
A casting notice posted today states that the current contract for Ohio State Murders concludes on March 12.
At the moment, The Collaboration will conclude February 19, from a casting call posted today.

KPOP is too expensive for them to close early. I could see Fat Ham going into the Golden. Or even the Music Box.

I've heard they're just finalizing details for the Cabaret transfer and it's slated for the Hudson (Since Merrily is delayed). I've also heard that Life of Pi is going into the Schoenfeld in the spring following the A.R.T. run.
I hope they announce Cabaret soon! Tickets will be gone like crazy if Eddie and Jessie come over from London! I know I’ll be jumping on tickets as soon as they go on sale!

I think this is the only way you could sell it to an American audience, unfortunately. Particularly because the RTC revival wasn't that long ago. Not to say shows be revived in recent years to one another is a bad thing, I just think it would take more than a new production of Cabaret to get an American audience to go and keep it profitable.

If it's Hudson, then I suppose Cabaret can't be spring next year then given that Salesman is on till January. Doubt they'd be willing to (or be foolish to) forego reconditioning the theater into the Kit Kat.
