A repeat of 2 titles from their 2016-2017 season with the addition of Lend Me A Tenor (which they presented in 2013) and another DEH. I understand limitations given their capital project construction, but I feel they've really lost their way in programming...

Anyone know why they're only doing 4 shows next season?

Financial constraints + lower attendance figures.

I'd rather watch paint dry than sit through this season. The only show I find entertaining here is Million Dollar Quartet.
At least Mrs.Doubtfire isn't able to be licensed yet, I think that would be the day I fall over dead.

I’m kind of shocked they haven’t done Tootsie yet!

I haven't seen tootsie, but I did see the doubtfire tour on the 10th. That show made me lose faith in humanity and almost made me lose hope in the future of the american theatre.
If they licensed shows like Lempicka, Dead Outlaw, or Swept Away (I know it's available for licensing, I just don't see many doing it) then more theatres would have more interesting seasons. But knowing the marketability of those shows are next to none, so I guess It'll be more DEH, Tootsie, and ultimately Doubtfire when the time comes.

I gather Mary Poppins is a brand new production and therefore will be very different to the Disney/Cameron Mackintosh production, so I would also assume this production will be the one that goes on the road in 2027.
So I also wonder why Disney/Cameron Mackintosh went for a brand new production, where the one that toured the UK recently was a big financial success and would also would be if it toured the US as it is very much a beloved title both sides of the pond.

Extremely unlikely that Mary Poppins is a brand new production. Much more likely a replica of their 2017 production with the same physical production rental. If it were new, I'd imagine that would've been specified in the press release -- not to mention the mezzanine will be closed the entire season.

Oh dear god, please not Tootsie!

The only thing that would inspire any desire to see these would be who they get for casting.
I do love Lend Me a Tenor (saw the 2010 Tucci-helmed revival) so that’s my one that I’m most inclined to see, but the others are really looking for those senior subscriber and family dollars

Not a bone in my body that gives a damn about any of the shows in this season. Ugh.

I hope it is.
Wasn't the recent revival of Beauty and the Beast that toured, started life at the Papermill, which was very projection heavy? If so I hope they don’t do the same with Mary, part of the joy of the show aside the score and that is the magic and flying, this couldn’t be done with projection unfortunately!
It is the gold standard in aerial choreograph - when Bert walks around the proscenium arch that is crazy, when of the best ever theatrical stunts to be performed on stage.

I am not a fan of the 2017 Papermill Production I think the costumes look incredibly cheap and the set is awful. They should use the set from the UK Tour. I think the Cameron Mackintosh Production of Mary Poppins is far superior to the Papermill Production and was probably one of the most visually appealing shows ever on Broadway.

Feel like people are missing some key factors about this season.
With their renovations, this is a season guided by finance constraints vs artistic possibilities. Not only did they cut down from 5 shows to 4, they cut down on audience capacity as well by closing the mezz. Without a lobby, there may also be limits to how much they expect to take in on bar sales and merchandise.
While Mary Poppins will be their big holiday show, the rest of the season consists of shows with smaller casts, sets, and running costs, which makes total financial sense, given their limitations.

Not one show from the Golden Age? This is why I haven't been there in years. Miss shows like The King and I & Funny Girl.

mrs doubtfire is yet another lazy adaptation from film to stage
in the same company of shows like pretty woman
although the latter is unbearably worse
the song ‘im rockin now’ from doubtfire is so generic it sounds like it was constructed by AI

I've seen them both and I can at least admit, I liked the absurdity of pretty woman the musical. It was horrible, but it was a good kind of horrible.
Mrs Doubtfire was the first musical that genuinely made me cringe in the theatre and made me wanna go to the great farm in the sky. The last two songs of act two and Miranda's song were passable, Miranda's song made me wish it was in a better musical, it wouldn't have been the best song if it were any other musical, but it was the best song in the show imo.
In all other aspects the show lacked *EVERYTHING* that a show needs to be a show. I have a video from the third preview on Broadway and I felt that it was a more put together show than it was after the pandemic and on tour. There were actual attempts of character development and chemistry between the actors. Alas, those songs were cut for more focus on Daniel, who's an empty character for two and a half hours.
I paid $120 to see it, and I'd rather pay 120$ to have my head slammed into a porta potty by an animatronic gorilla. I see why you all rant about bad shows now, and I apologize for going off all those times I did. I've seen the light of bad shows, and it boils the blood.
