Honestly the big question I have is should I watch the 1992 film before going into this production?

It's a great movie with an incredibly iconic moment, so I'd say it's worth a watch whether you see the play or not.

I mean don’t get me wrong I already have my tickets to see it on the 14th…but I’m usually one of those people that sometimes likes to go into things completely blind

Re: A FEW GOOD MEN Previews

This was....good. True to the film, well produced, lovely music (never distracting) and excellent lighting design. Everyone needs a bit more time with these characters, especially Ms.Rodriguez. For me, she is strictly a musical theater actress, and a very good one. Not a must see, but it will definitely fill the theater for the 13 weeks this is playing. Solid B.

Enjoy from the center or very close to it because he did it again, guys! 🫠

Hearing, from others, Ms. Rodriguez is not good. That's a shame but unsurprising considering her attempts in other plays - and being close friend of the director.

Arden is also not a play director - so guessing some of this direction will be musical theater vibes. Hearing plays are "not his gift" from tonight.

sounds like with "he did it again", directing for any theaters' sight lines isn't a gift either. Goodness.

How was the running time?

Re: A FEW GOOD MEN Previews

Interestingly comment about Rodriguez being a musical theater actor: guess who stood by for the character in the original production? Betsy Joslyn. And Pamela Blair took over for Megan Gallagher.

It was a production that employed some of the best young actors in the industry over its 500 performances. J. K. Simmons, Perry King, Timothy Busfeld (um, man of the hour), Ron Perlman, Tom Hulce, Mark Nelson. I remember walking by the Music Box back in the day and seeing the new photos. It was known for its presentation of testosterone (um, word of the hour).

My question is how well Bradley Whitford handles the Jack Nicholson role which has the most dramatic parts of the movie/play.

This was a 1989 Broadway play before being adapted into a 1992 film. This 2026 production is a revival of the play not an adaptation of the film.

Stephen Lang dominated the original production in that role and I preferred him to Nicholson. I also preferred Tom Hulce to Tom Cruise, which is not to say that the movie isn't good.

Even back in '89 (I think that's when it opened), I would have given the play a solid B. The movie as well a few years later. I'm surprised there is so much interest in it now.

I’m glad that you had fun. I’m looking forward to seeing this play soon.
