This may have been addressed elsewhere, but for those who've seen the Sweeney understudies --- preference over Jansen vs Christopher? (I do plan to see De Waal)
Tickets are on sale through 05/05. But the Broadway Direct website is now showing Thu-Sat tickets "On Sale Soon" for the following three weeks. Anyone knows what that's about?
I saw it again yesterday and, now having seen all three, Paul-Jordan Jansen is by and far the winner of the three. Groban was good, Christopher was great. Jansen is downright TERRIFYING. When he got into Sweeney's attack mode Turpin evades him the first time, I felt genuine fear - which is a testament to him because when you can catch a repeat patron off guard with your performance, you've done a highly commendable job.
I met with some friends in the cast after and, while I heard nothing of Joe Locke, I heard that Tveit is apparently shaping up to be very surprising. I didn't hear anything about Sutton either, but I don't know what her rehearsal schedule is like in tandem with Once Upon A Mattress.
The only alternate I have not seen is DeLaney Westfall and I've heard great things. I love Jeanna De Waal's portrayal and, for some weird reason, she reminds me of Jessie Mueller.

I'd posted this in the other Sweeney Todd thread, but I thought he did a great job as Toby! I had no idea it was his first show when I saw it this afternoon (didn't know until I was on this site this evening)

Thanks for the head's-up:

There is no way this production is good enough to transfer to London- especially with Annaleigh Ashfords 30 mangled accents. She’s be laughed out of town.
Annaleigh Ashford would mean nothing for the box office in London so unless Groban feels as strongly about her as JG did for Sunday they could easily recast her. I'm not even sure if Groban is as big in the UK as he is in the States, but for a limited season they could do good business. Since they are okay with casting tenors in the role they might get Julian Ovenden instead.
I'm so pleased to read the initial report regarding Joe Locke. Already after less than a week of performances stage door is looking crazy like not seen in ages.
What clever casting and marketing. I hope a long , successful and varied career for this still very young man.
I'm sure that his chats with Patti would have been very beneficial during his rehearsals..
Seering this in a couple of weeks - thank you discount code - and super excited to see it with Aaron and Sutton. Saw the original pair and for various reasons, they were unfortunately a mixed bag. And very excited to see Joe Locke, we only recently started Heartstopper and it's a delight of a show.

It would be great if this could extend beyond May. The fact that this production has introduced so many young people to Sondheim and musical theatre in general warms my jaded heart. If they could extend into the summer to allow for more young people to come over their summer vacations - that would be wonderful.
''I think Joe's run will obviously be limited due to his Heartstopper commitments''
Production of Season 3 of ''Heartstopper'' just wrapped in December 2023, so I'm assuming production of Season 4 doesn't start until later this year. It's also hard to believe Locke would've signed up for a Broadway stint if it didn't last at least a few months. But who knows?
I am fascinated about the process of Joe Lock in Heartstopper and how he went from this great series to Broadway. It's a giant leap[too young for Into the Woods?]. so I would love to know how it happened.
There was never any indication that he could sing. His manager, which I presume he would have one by now, would have been aware of the casting for a new Toby, and sent across a tape? What do they send these days?
I'm not obsessed I just enjoy the behind the scene stories

Why would you think this situation is any different (or more “fascinating”) than how any other semi-famous person is cast?

''Jordan Fisher's blink and you'll miss it role in Sweeney Todd would like to comment.''
Jordan Fisher was in ''Sweeney Todd'' from Feb. 28, 2023-June 18, 2023, just shy of four months. If Locke's stint is similar, it'll still have run for a few months.
