I know Robot Chicken parodied this idea, but someone with talent and a love for the source material might be able to do something with "Star Trek II:  The Wrath of Khan."  (And yes, my own eyes roll at the concept - hope this doesn't get me banned from the boards).  Still, it features a once flamboyant hero plagued by aging and self-doubt, a swaggering, scenery chewing villain, themes of revenge, facing consequences of decisions made long ago, reuniting with a long lost love, loss, sacrifice, and friendship, all classic dramatic tropes.  Technical wizards could create effects to make the audience feel like they're in outer space during the battle scenes (yes, $$$$) using the late James Horner's score.

However, I can see the same thing being so dreadfully and embarrassingly bad (particularly "KHAAANNN!!! or during the final scene between Kirk and a dying Spock - I don't know that I could stomach a singing Spock) that it would irreparably damage the franchise and performing it would become a felony.

Honestly I just need a new Minchin musical. Any project he's apart of I'm immediately sold on.

I'm on board with anything new from Minchin, too.

After seeing the Platt/Corden "Bromance" musical, I'd really like to see James Corden star in my Miranda Hart/Tim Minchin musical. I don't know how he'd manage his talk show and a Broadway show at the same time, but he really would be perfect as the male version of Miranda.

Minchin posted a new song at the begining of the year, '15 Minutes', and that just feels like a tease.

Junebug could work as a play. One of my favorite movies :)

"Once Upon a Time in America" is the grand American musical drama I wish someone like Bartlett Sher and Jason Robert Brown would tackle.

The following have always seemed like good ideas to me:
That Thing You Do.
Enchanted.
As Good As If Gets.
Stand By Me.
Shawshank Redemption.
Empire Records (but off Broadway and campy 90s)

I've always thought 1996's "Mirror Has Two Faces" would work as a musical comedy on stage. The Streisand-Bridges movie had it's "moments", but I think it would work better on a stage with music to move it along more quickly.

As early as 2001, there was talk of Moonstruck, the Musical.

What didn't happen and why not?

I actually think this has been announced, but I'd love to see a stage adaptation of Mystic Pizza!

Also....maybe...Yours, Mine and Ours? Just a thought.

She-Devil! Specifically by David Yazbek in the heightened style of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. It is already structured to work so well as a musical, has wonderfully large characters, and Mary's pink palace alone would be worth staging it.

I would totally watch that, but I would be a bit worried it wouldn't be the same going from the fairy tale world to the real world. There was a difference when it went from animation and life action which I'm not completely sure can be translated to stage. Still I would love to see at least an attempt because the rest of it could work very well

I know I'm bringing back a month old thread (sorryr!) but I recently re-watched Crazy Rich Asians, and I totally agree...I think it would make for an incredible stage adaptation, not to mention the diversity it would bring to Broadway. Fully support.

I've been wanting to see Neil Gaiman's novel "The Graveyard Book" adapted into a musical for years. It's just so fun and perfect.

Crazy Rich Asians could be interesting.

One I’m really hoping for is a state adaptation of Sing You Home by Jodi Piccoult. Really important story.

Forever waiting for Hocus Pocus to happen.

I’ve also wanted a Miss Congeniality musical starring Stephanie J. Block for years.

That would be amazing! I love Neil Gaiman, and with so much of his work being adapted for film (Stardust, Coraline) and television (American Gods, Good Omens - which I can't wait for), a theatre project would be a really interesting move. The Graveyard Book is a perfect choice, I agree.

Were there ever plans for Hocus Pocus on stage? Or do we all just have to hope & dream? Adaptations You Would Like To See?

MISS CONGENIALITY would be a fabulous musical in the right hands. Can you imagine the finale?!

CALL ME BY YOUR NAME could work as an intimate piece with the right composer.

Call Me By Your Name - totally agree with the right style and mood (ie, Once, The Band's Visit) that this could be so beautifully told on the stage.

Outside of the Box- Eyes of the Dragon by Stephen King could be an interesting opportunity for a play or musical with the right book writer and composers... (couldn't any show, though? haha)  But the story is well-paced w/ rich characters.

Randomly- Not sure really why this popped into my head- but it made me laugh.  A cross-over of Hamilton and Terms of Endearment- Shirley MacLaine singing Give Her (Your Are Not Taking Away) Her Shot.

If anyone could turn the play Machinal into a musical, it's Dave Malloy.
