"Oh look at the time, three more intelligent plays just closed and THE ADDAMS FAMILY made another million dollars" -Jackie Hoffman, Broadway.com Audience Awards
"He found something that he wanted, had always wanted and always would want— not to be admired, as he had feared; not to be loved, as he had made himself believe; but to be necessary to people, to be indispensable."
-F. Scott Fitzgerald's This Side of Paradise
"This table, he is over one hundred years old. If I could, I would take an old gramophone needle and run it along the surface of the wood. To hear the music of the voices. All that was said." - Doug Wright, I Am My Own Wife
everyone is entitled to their own opinions... the only thing I would say is that its almost disrespectful to say that Lansbury is "overrated", the woman has won FOUR TONY AWARDS
"The good news is I have an excellent Tony speech. The bad news is I've had it for forty-five years."-Elaine Stritch
How can anyone suggest that this face belong to someone who is overrated? Lame.
"All our dreams can come true -- if we have the courage to pursue them." -- Walt Disney
We must have different Gods. My God said "do to others what you would have them do to you". Your God seems to have said "My Way or the Highway".
Thankfully you're the only one that thinks this. Lansbury is one of the best musical theatre actresses ever.
I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.
Yes, you are the only one who thinks Angela Lansbury is overrated. Lansbury is arguably the greatest musical theatre actress that ever lived. Enough said.
Perhaps it's just youth? Angela has made her mark in Broadway History. She's a unique character too. So comparing her with others just doesn't seem right. She has surpassed that point by becoming an icon of her own. Not too many reach that mark in life. I haven't seen her give a bad performance yet.
Exactly what sort of reaction did you think you were going to get?
I agree with whomever said, if you want proof of how well Lansbury can sing, listen to the Mame CD. It's a far better representation of her voice than the Gypsy CD.
I'll join the chorus of saying Lansbury is a musical theatre legend in a class all by herself, but I wanted to address one comment in particular.
I haven't seen her give a bad performance yet.
Obviously you didn't see DEUCE.
"Winning a Tony this year is like winning Best Attendance in third grade: no one will care but the winner and their mom."

"I have also met him in person, and I find him to be quite funny actually. Arrogant and often misinformed, but still funny."
-bjh2114 (on Michael Riedel)
You certainly are the only one who thinks that. Mybe it's due to your immaturity, or just judging her off of one recording (especially considering recordings aren't always fair bases to base a conclusion off of). Listen to her in Dear World or Mame and you'll certainly see why she is perhaps the greatest women to ever be born.
"Light the candles! Get the ice out! Roll the rug up, it's today!"
I'm watching Murder, She Wrote right now! I love that woman! You can just see those wheels turning in that head as she tracks down that killer...awesome!
