Cumming cannot be nommed for another Tony.
Though I think I could make a case for the ghost of Natasha Richardson.

I imagine if it sells well enough, they'll extend it and recast the role of Sally. Studio 54 seems likely as the venue but it could be the Stephen Sondheim.

"I've been waiting my entire theatrical life for this revival."
The last revival closed 9 years ago; what are you, 12?
This is an odd story for several reasons - no director or producer named (less than 6 months out), no mention of what version of the show, and most of all - Isn't Hathaway a lyric soprano? I remember her doing Carnival, and that wasn't so long ago that her voice would drop half an octave. Or will they transpose all of Sally's numbers to a community theatre mid-range tessitura?

^ Yeah...funny about those things you mentioned. But it's in the Daily Mail, so it MUST be true.

Am I the only one doubting the validity of this information, given that it came ~exclusively~ from The Daily Fail?

When I see the phrase "the ____ estate", I imagine a vast mansion in the country full of monocled men and high-collared women receiving letters about productions across the country and doing spit-takes at whatever they contain.

My first thought when I read this was that unless hologram Natasha Richardson is Sally, I'm not all that interested.

I'm willing to bet my 401k that this is not happening.

I assume that Alan Cumming would NOT be eligible for another Tony Award, since he has played the role before.
Carol Channing, Yul Brunner, Joel Grey and Angela Lansbury were all ineligible when they played their roles a second, third, fourth time etc.

Newintown, I'm twenty, thanks. I said my entire theatrical life - I only got into theatre around 2005, by which time the revival had closed.
And I'd assume Sam Mendes is directing. Haven't the rumors been indicating that it's going to be a remounting of his production?

Not only was he nominated, he won the Tony. So no...he will not be eligible unless the entire nominating committee does some heavy, wonderful drugs.
And really...my entire 401k is up for grabs. Someone just needs to be willing to take the bet.

This is dumb.
And it shows how little creativity and guts producers have.
Why not put her in a NEW musical? She's gonna sell tickets so take a friggin' chance. At least do a different show that isn't as fresh in the public mind. Jeezzz.
The girl can act and sing but this role don't seem s good fit to me.
I hope it's a pipe dream.
Put her in THE KING AND I, for crap's sake!

Thank you, Curtain, my thoughts exactly. What could be more pedestrian than a remounting of a revival from less than a decade ago?
If anyone is desperate to see this show again, watch a bootleg video. Personally, re-runs on Broadway aren't my idea of entertainment.
The girl is talented - someone write her a good show of her own, rather than shoehorn her into a role that's been played by half the actresses on earth.

^My sentiments exactly.
Am I intrigued how she will do? Definitely. Am I looking forward to seeing Cumming reprise his role? Sure.
But I remember a few years back when Todd Haimes announced they were planning to bring CABARET back, purely as a cash cow for Roundabout. It was a trashy idea then and it still seems like lazy producing.

This is where she answers the question, "Can she do eight shows a week?" She's probably smart to wait to answer "Can she carry a show by herself?" and "Can she originate a role?" later down the road.

"has anyone ever played the same role in two seperate revivals/productions?? "
In addition to the others mentioned, Lonette McKee as Julie in the 1983 & 1994 revivals of Show boat.

It's weird to me that she won an Emmy for The Simpsons.

She's an immensely talented woman, I don't doubt she'll be a great Sally and Cabaret is preferable to seeing her do something like My Fair Lady or Gigi. If it's a package that comes with Alan Cumming too then all the better.
