I'd imagine that this is happening solely so that RTC can continue to put on such wonderful productions like THE PHILANTHROPIST, MAN AND BOY, PICNIC, HEDDA GABLER, etc.
Why in the world would Cumming want to revisit this? He did it, nailed it and won the Tony. He doesn't strike me as the type who just wants the paycheck.
Yes, my head did spin a bit mentioning KING AND I,(I was in a snit)but my point was, stretch her talent a bit. Anna is a rich, slightly more mature role. Sally is a great role but as someone said, we've seen a million actresses in that part.
"For example, if I should paint my fingernails green -
and it just so happens I do paint them green. Well, if anyone should ask me why, I say: 'I think it's pretty!'"
I'm excited for Alan Cumming, and the fact that it's my very favorite show. And I don't really understand why it's a problem that Sally has been played by so many other actresses. We've seen just as many, if not more, Roses, and we still get excited every five years when there's a Gypsy revival.
Do you mean that someone with name recognition should make her Broadway debut in a role fewer actresses have played? Why should that be the case?
has anyone ever played the same role in two seperate revivals/productions??
Adrian Zmed played Danny Zuko in the original run of Grease and the 1994 production.

We must have different Gods. My God said "do to others what you would have them do to you". Your God seems to have said "My Way or the Highway".
The Playbill article quotes the Daily Mail as stating that the production would be this September, but quotes Cumming as revealing that rehearsals would begin early 2014. So they're going to run the production for a few months, and then maybe rehearse?
I'd be so excited if this happened, I've never seen the Mendes production and would love to see Cumming in the role. Hathaway probably won't reach Richardson levels but who would? Nina Arianda would have been more interesting. Hathaway is not particularly effortless, it takes her work and sometimes it's apparent but when she gets "there" she's very good. She'll almost surely channel Liza, as she already does in a lot of her recent appearances, which is fine with me. Now just get Donna Murphy as Schneider and I'll be a happy camper.
"Some people can thrive and bloom living life in a living room, that's perfect for some people of one hundred and five. But I at least gotta try, when I think of all the sights that I gotta see, all the places I gotta play, all the things that I gotta be at"
I think there is a mistake. This feels really off. I would expect some clarification soon. Makes no sense.
anne is really setting herself with this. She's a good actress but she's asking to be caompared with Liza, Natasha, Lotte, Ute among others. Im not sure she's up to the depth of this task.
"The sexual energy between the mother and son really concerns me!"-random woman behind me at Next to Normal
"I want to meet him after and bang him!"-random woman who exposed her breasts at Rock of Ages, referring to James Carpinello
The CABARET revival ran for quite a while and was a virtual revolving door for actresses playing Sally (from 80s movie/pop stars to then-current sitcom stars, etc). Some were great. Some were serviceable. Some not-so-much.
This cannot be said about GYPSY. Yes, we've had our fair share of revivals but they rarely lasted longer than the original Rose's run (with a few exceptions).

The headline of this article contains two amazingly enormous errors - Hathaway, and dates. This is happening, but it is not happening in September and it is not happening with Hathaway. Someone clearly rushed out of the gate without full information wanting to be the first to break a story. Unfortunately, this is what happens without careful fact checking. We saw a worse example of this with the Boston bombings, when the New York Post printed inaccurate information day after day after day. It just goes to show, you can't believe everything you read in the press.
