We're seeing the matinee this Saturday (8/10). Anyone care to speculate as to whether that means we'll get Mr. Polec, or the understudy?
I'd think he'd want to be in as many shows as possible coming up to opening.
Can any explain the missing effects? Where was the elevator used? The pool?

Throughout the London and Toronto runs, Polec rarely did 8 shows a week to preserve his voice. Having seen the show, I do think it's a fairly difficult role vocally. I don't think there is any "organized" schedule as to what shows he will miss.
Since this is a short run, I do think he'll try to do as many as possible. But, if I wanted to be certain to see him, I'd probably try to avoid 2 show days.

Merchandise basically identical except a NY specific poster. Infact the professional programs (a great deal for $10) are the London ones with the London cast. They do give everyone a free Obsidean Times which has the NY cast in it.

According to cast members it wasn’t a planned call out. "
I am shocked Christina is doing every show (or trying to). Yes I would argue her role is just as difficult. While I haven't seen Andrew live, I am sure it could be argued she is just as critical to the success of the show (or even more so). If you don't feel why Strat would do anything to get Raven, the show just simply wouldn't work. And Christina just makes the perfect Raven.
Not sure if Andrew planned to miss the show or not, but he isn't doing 8 shows a week. So unless he announces his schedule, there is no way to know for sure. I went Saturday night to see Beetlejuice and (more bad luck) Sophia Anne Carusoe was out. She had done pretty much every show, so there is just no way to know for sure. Beetlejuice was a lot of fun too. I highly recommend it.
If I lived in NYC, I would try to catch another show to see Andrew, but I don't. So my chances of seeing Andrew as Strat is not going to happen anytime soon...and maybe ever. So enjoy the show in NYC while you can!

I agree that Act 2 drags a bit compared to Act 1. Act 1 is just more exciting and it is a long show. Act 2 though really shows off the vocal power of some of the stars. Some really great ballads in there. As for the cast, I think the entire cast including ensemble were excellent.

Don’t know if this is the right place to post this but wondering if anyone knows the schedule for opening night. What time should we plan on getting to the theatre (can we watch the red carpet?) Anything else we should know about opening night?
Other than that any restaurant ideas in the area? We tend to stick with Times Square and I don’t know the city center area very well.

Now that the show has started, can anyone confirm the “gunshot/loud noise” situation?
The same 3 gunshot “moments” from past productions? Are they still believed to be recorded sound effects & not actual blanks fired?
Thanks

I'm a bit surprised that an understudy has already gone on for Strat. Is he sick?"
They just wanted to give the understudy a chance to perform the role given that it was previews and that the house count was at 40 per cent. I do not think Andrew will be out very often. It would make sense that if Andrew is out it will be on a Sunday night. The count had been lower but seats were filled through TDF.
City Center could not accommodate the missing special effects.

I wonder how they couldn’t accommodate? I mean if they were planning on touring with all the special effects I’d think a 2 month sit soak would be easy to fix . Giant theater like that should have plenty of space.
And kind of bummed we were deemed a “lesser audience.”

That’s an awfully big assumption

Well what I mean is wasn’t the Toronto production the launch of the tour? And weren’t all those effects in the Toronto production?

I believe that the second Toronto iteration was considerably scaled down. Someone please verify this.

I'm pretty sure the second Toronto run is the physical production that's in NY right now.
Can anyone verify that there have been no plot point changes, specifically, that the emotional fallout from Tink's "relationship" with Strat is still the motivation for giving him up to Falco [i.e., "Not Allowed to Love"]?

That certainly makes sense. Perhaps it has been in storage since the tour last year was cancelled.

Per the ongoing list of changes on a Steinman fan wiki, that has not been altered.

I attended the Saturday, August 3 matinee performance. Was unfortunate that there were SO many seats unsold. The ushers were even moving people forward prior to the curtain going up.
I am a fan of the Meatloaf BOOH album. Overall I enjoyed the show. The set is amazing. I enjoyed the camera being used in the bedroom to project the action on the big 'billboard'. Special effects really (in my humble opinion) were merely lots of confetti explosions.
The performers were fantastic. Their singing was exceptional.
The story is a bit lackluster though I was completely ok with the Sci-Fi approach. At times I felt like pieces of West Side Story, Romeo & Juliet and even Peter Pan were being channeled while the setting/time was more like the old Arnold Schwarzenegger movie "The Running Man".
Could I imagine myself sitting through this again...nope.
Spoilers (in no particular order)
The high energy dance, Tink, the oops gun shot, death...so predictable and not an omg moment.
The mispronunciation of Tink into every word that rhymed...groan.
That second song (What Part of My Body Hurts the Most)..omfg slit my wrists.
I was ready for it to be over at "You Took The Words Right Out Of My Mouth" and then it (the story) kept going. Yes...was too long and could be trimmed OR the plot tightened up.
If anything I hoped that either Strat was going to be released to a mortal life (not longer 'frozen' in youth) or Raven was going to be 'frozen' into an immortal life.
As someone who has seen the Toronto, London, tour, and NYCC productions — the set is definitely not as scaled down as most claim it to be (without having seen it.)
Yes, of course, it’s slightly different in terms of effects such as the car going into the pit, pyro, pool, and more rock formation around the stage, but in terms of the main set (tunnel, tower, screen, etc) it looks wonderful and those who haven’t seen it wouldn’t know a difference.
I attended the 1st and 2nd previews.
The cast is absolutely brilliant — Andrew Polec, Lena Hall, Bradley Dean, Christina Bennington and Danielle Steers... You just can’t go wrong.
The ensemble is also very strong and give a strong sense of the bond within the gang of “freezers.”
The show itself is the same script, set and changes made to the US touring production — which is arguably the best version of the script to date.
I throughly enjoyed myself, and attended the 1st show thinking it couldn’t possibly top the incredible performances I had previously seen of Bat Out of Hell, but it definitely did in many ways.

Love those plot ideas Brian! For such an epic show it all felt very low stakes.

It's been asked several times here, but I don't recall this being answered - is there still a pool, or has that also been scrapped?

Yes, it’s scrapped, but it was only previously used for a few second quick change at the end of the show. There’s still a quick change, just done differently.
