The show isn't making money. It's been bleeding money since their first week in previews. Foster must be pumping money into to keep it open. My only guess as to why it's not closing immediately is they might try and save face with the show to possibly have it tour next season.

I know he backed Clinton in 2016 and then declined to be involved in Trump's inauguration stuff in 2017--- is there a source since then suggesting hes a Trump supporter?

According to public records, his wife, Katharine McPhee has donated to the Republican party at least 15 times from 2008-2021. David Foster, on the other hand, has donated only to Democratic party candidates including Clay Aiken, Alex Padilla, Jerrold Nadler, Dianne Feinstein, Hillary Clinton, etc (source, you have to check the employer column to confirm it's him). I don't think Foster is a Trump supporter, but maybe somebody else knows something. His wife on the other hand is another story

When I read this first post I rolled my eyes and purposely didn't get involved with someone this uninformed and exhausting. Foster has aways been a Dem. Period.
Thank you , Piccolo and Midnights for clarifying.

That's fair enough, of course. I still don't gethow she and McDonald form some kind of natural class that will "split votes" (like the three featured actresses fromFun Home)."
I’m so glad you said this. I know it’s old news now, but I always thought it was strange hearing people talk about Audra and Nicole splitting some potential bloc of voters. It made no sense (to me).
Anyway… I came to this thread because, after resisting Boop for a while (because the premise sounded uninteresting to me), I finally caught the show. We were able to see it, on the last day of our trip, somewhat by chance, after opting out of “Call Me Izzy” when we heard that Jean Smart would be out.
Overall, I really liked Boop, though I agree with some of the criticisms.
I found Act I underwhelming and a little too silly. I especially disliked the scene where she identifies each color, and I thought the real-world sets and backdrops looked cheap (though the short time spent in the black-and-white world was wonderful).
For me, Act II was impossible to resist. I actually found it quite sweet and was surprised to find myself welling up at the end when Betty asks Dwayne “How will it end?” and he says “I don’t know, but I know how it starts.” Given the show’s overall upbeat vibes, I thought that that exchange was surprisingly nuanced, because in essence he’s saying “we might tank, but we can try.”
I liked several songs and agree with those who wished for more songs for Betty in Act II.
I absolutely loved Jasmine Amy Rogers: her dancing, singing, acting — everything. I’m thrilled it worked out for us to see her and I would go see her again in a heartbeat.

BOOP! was filmed for TOFT on Thursday night, per my daughter, who won the digital lottery and watched the show from one of the boxes, which she said was the worst seat in the house.
Her expectations were low, but she really enjoyed the musical. She said she laughed a lot and loved the performances.

farewell to a wonderful cast and thank you for a great run! We know that David Foster is working on a new show that will be bigger and sparkly. Ignore the negative, you all had fans and Betty will live on in the cartoons and the imaginations of so many people. Good night Betty Boop, wherever you are!
For someone as OBSESSED with a show as you are, I’d imagine you know it’s closing tomorrow. I’ve known people less addicted to heroin than you are to “Boop”.

When you're in a crowd of one who is this addicted to Boop... well you do the math.

“Addicted Heroine” would either be an awesome drag name or how someone who doesn’t fully grasp the English language would try to denigrate someone.

There are not enough therapists on earth to help Mrs.
Look at what y’all are doing to this poor woman with all this nonsense:
Kinda crazy to me that this was the worse of the two Bob Martin flops this season. Jasmine Amy Rogers is a powerhouse (amazing how she can dominate the stage in the first half of the opening number when all you can see is her face) and there are some respectable melodies, but the book and set are both weirdly claustrophobic. Martin sets up a bunch of t-balls for himself and then whiffs basically all of them, and every scene feels like it's from a different draft of the script. And then the whole set is basically just a screen all the way upstage and a couple of wagons coming on and off, like a cheap non-union tour, blasted with some of the ugliest lighting I've seen on Broadway in a long time.
The saddest thing is that Rogers's performance is genuinely brilliant. I don't really know or care about Betty Boop, but she creates such a fully realized character, and I think it's impossible not to be completely in love with her within the first five minutes. If the show lived up to what she brought to it, it would be a barnburner for the ages, but the absolute mismatch only makes it worse in comparison, like she's trapped in this grimy, ugly cage. Sometimes I found myself focused solely on her performance because it was the only real thing on stage.
Honestly, I'm kind of surprised by how much I didn't enjoy it. I hope Rogers gets her flowers (probably literally after today's show) and moves on to a long series of great roles in shows that can match her talent.
