Oh brother, you stayed for the whole show, even enjoying his replacement; but yet, mailed in those ticket stubs. There's a name for people like you, it rhymes with creep."
We were driving home and heard on the radio that Lincoln Center was giving full refunds for the performance. That's when Icollected everyone's stubs and mailed them in the next morning. The radio even gave the address to mail them to.
The interesting thing is, when the discussion of who will take over from Midler came up lot of people both on social media and in the real world described the role as not hard to sing and not particularly demanding physically
It will often be the case that if a role doesnt require belting to the rafters and doing high kicks every number, that people will underestimate what it actually takes to get through it. I remember overhearing someone talking about Grease and saying Well, the stuff the have to do in Greased Lighting cant be as strenuous as anything from a pop video! And they are off stage loads its interesting what the public perception of the work sometimes is.
As mentioned above Dolly is a mammoth role. She drives every scene she is in and is barely off the stage. Ms Buckley is an older actor and touring is hard work for someone in their twenties.
Ive seen regional productions in which the star has clearly pushed for more costume changes ala the movie (which doesnt make sense anyway as shes supposed to be living hand to mouth and the first act takes place over a day) that always makes me chuckle as my a week into the run you know girl gonna be regretting it.
Anyone else overheard anything like the Grease comment that makes you scratch your head?
Maybe they should have skewed younger for the demanding tour. Again- this is not an attack, but this tour is billed as Betty Buckley in Hello, Dolly and she has missed a good handful of performances.

This is the problem when you market a show with the star of the show billed with the show name IMO. I understand it is to sell tickets but it makes the show more about seeing the star than the entire show. Plus to the general public, I don't think Betty Buckley is that big a name especially in comparison to Bette Midler.

I have the option of going tonight but I really don't want to drive to Orange County if she is out. I am also aware of her attendance out of boredom and because I follow the show on social media and the feeds have been busy with mention of her absence. I am amazed Neal takes it as far as calling the box office to check. But I get it. No need to judge. She is above the title and our media outlets are currently inundated with ads touting her in the show.
In her interviews about the tour she always mentions how much rest and self-care she needs, but her Instagram illustrates the exact opposite. During the holiday break she was back and forth between NYC and Texas, going to Broadways shows every night (sometimes two a day) and out to dinner. She was posting this.
Bette and Bernadette were quiet during the run and they stayed in NYC. BP said that she didn't talk as much, rested and worked out-that's it. Bette also said she was in bed early every night and living like a nun.
I hope she is taking care of herself. She is the star after all. She also posts about Trump non-stop which I don't think is good for box office.

No, that is not true. Facts matter.

People were upset when Bette was out of Dolly... same for Ben Platt in Evan Hansen... as well as when Glenn Close missed the mother’s day performance of Sunset Boulevard... same for when either Nathan Lane or Andrew Garfield, can’t remember which, was out of Angels in America and the box office refused to refund or exchange tickets.
Funny enough I just realized that they all won the Tony for their respective shows, so it’s really not that surprising that people were upset.
Yes, BettyBoy72, during her holiday break she was with friends and family, and did a lot of traveling. Betty has always supported her fellow actors by seeing their shows. It's always great to relax and do what you want to do when you're on vacation. Every person, regardless of the profession does that.
Bette wasn't a Trump fan and posted quite frequently about him, and that didn't hurt the box office at all.

The other poster specifically linked my post and made the comment "you all lost your mind" regarding missed performances. The implication is that I have made negative statements about Bette Midler and the "Kid". I have not. Others may have, but I have not.
Of course, Betty is allowed to do whatever she wants on her vacation. I don't begrudge her that. However, as it works with social media, people will make assumptions. When I call in to work, I don't post about my escapades on social media. That's all.

Anyway; she has been absent from social media in the last 2 days . I think I am going to pass on going tonight. I was going to use a credit I have with the theater. But traffic in Los Angeles on a Friday is enough of a deterrent. I hope she is ok. You could be living like a nun and still catch something and be sick... if that is what it is. I will be at the Pantages towards the end of her run. Hope she is ok by then.

You could call to see if she's performing.
I agree woth with everyone else though, when you miss work, for any reason, don't be posting about all the fun you're having, no matter the job. I also don't blame a 71 yr old woman for missing all these shows, especially considering she's traveling every or every other week. Should've tried to get a really strong alternate although I understand that may have been difficult
I went to see the show on Sunday night in San Diego and she did not perform. They did not make an announcement prior to the show. There was an insert in the playbill announcing she would not perform. I have to admit I was really disappointed, I inquired with some friends if I should see it in LA and hope she performs. I was told don't bother the show isn't that much different with her in it. Honestly I was more disappointed they were no programs for sale.
