Turkey Week - salivate at your leisure.
Happy trails to Leslie Odom, Jr. (those HAMILTON numbers!), Jessica Vosk, Durrell "Tank" Babbs, and Phillip Johnson Richardson.
Interesting that ART's numbers went down with just a few weeks to go, even with an extra performance. Did any of the actors miss at least one show?
JUST IN TIME holds relatively firm, even with Groff missing 4+ performances. I was expecting a total below seven figures.
Hoping this is the start of something for STRANGER THINGS with the release of a lauded fifth season of the streaming series, and not just your typical Thanksgiving bump.

Looks like QoV made the right call...
The Harry Potter numbers continue to astound me. Wow.

Should Two Strangers be worried? That's a low number
I would not be worried about TWO STRANGERS just yet. Even if the capacity is lower than expected, it just opened. Plus, it’s a relatively cheap two-hander show with a turntable set. I would say if it starts to consistently sag under $450K, then worry. But I will say that with QOV on its way out, it’s the only new musical in town until March, so maybe they should capitalize on that?
Side Note: CHESS just broke the Imperial box office record (and their own) for the second time this month. They first broke it three weeks ago, beating a late 2019 record held by AIN’T TOO PROUD by about $150K

It’s a low number but it’s such a small show with no demanding star salaries that it’s likely still hitting its weekly expenses.

So it seems ST season 5 premiere had some effect on First Shadow and it got it's highest grossing week since opening in April. Now is this enough to sustain it after the holidays? I still see this show closing in 2026

I appreciate how knowledgeable all of you are on what could keep a show running and when they should be worried!

Running costs are 600. Need to gross around 700 to be break even. Hopefully the xmas holiday themes will help with sales before the January drop.

Not sure where you decided to pull that number from, but this is what was disclosed in Forbes about 1.5 weeks ago.
In addition, the fixed weekly operating costs of Two Strangers are estimated to be $480,577. Adjusting for inflation, the show should cost less money to run each week than any other new commercial musical on Broadway since at least the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The surprise news last month that the show could receive up to $3 million in state tax credits is icing on the cake.

I'm happy to see a nice little uptick for Stranger Things.

Well I invested in the show. So maybe someone told me the running costs before I committed. What is filed with early paperwork is a projection not the final number. But yes on the tax credit! - although the budget is more like a play number so it may only qualify for about a million. Don't know the specifics of that. And it is still the lowest costing show out there!

I think Stranger Things closes around the 1 year mark, before they have to do any major recasting.
I’m curious how much Wicked saved on advertising expenditures over the past month or so as the film rolled out into cinemas.

IMHO, it's hard to tell if the new season actually had any effect on it considering this was a major tourist week that would have seen its numbers increase regardless.

I thought JUST IN TIME would be lower too though I do remember prices for last week were sky high and perhaps the sold out shows when Groff performed were high enough to offset the lower numbers when he was out. In addition, there were enough folks who watched JUST IN TIME and were ok with the price they paid despite not seeing Groff perform.

Do we know what the nut is for Stranger Things? The gross they should have in order to keep running? Did I use the correct term?
As the discussion about the lack of new musicals this season has continued, I feel like an under discussed factor is just how well so many long running shows are doing. Not just Wicked, Hamilton and Lion King. There are so many musicals doing solid numbers week after week and then popping big time on holiday weeks. Even ones that have seemed to be on death's door at times are capable of having super strong weeks. I feel like usually there's shows that are quite obviously reaching the end or past their expiration date (think BTTF, The Notebook and Water For Elephants around this time a year ago).
Everything hanging on pretty well is creating a lack of real estate space for new musicals, not that there are a ton clamoring to come in.

It’s the right term - though a nut is a break-even point.
It was capitalized for roughly $50 Million, and I imagine a cast of that size plus all of the special effects have to push it north of $1.5M+ (Queen of Versailles, by comparison, is $1.3M)
Based on the grosses history, I’d be shocked if it had more than a handful of break-even weeks let alone profitable. But Netflix has deep pockets and they’ll keep pumping money into it if it pays off in the long game. (It won’t)

I’ve seen casting notices to replace that I believe were for Broadway so they might be trying to have it run past one year.

There are more shows hanging on which is great news but we will be down a net of around 5 new musicals. There are tons of show wanting to come in - of all levels of quality which is subjective and you never know what will work at the end of the day....Versailles is a critics pick!

I know Buena Vista has a built in fan base and it's a beloved album but it's funny because at least in my circles I almost never hear people talking about it. The people I know who've seen it (including myself) really enjoyed it but it's not one that comes up often for recommendations or raves. It's great that they're still doing so well though!
I wonder if Two Strangers is having a hard time marketing. They seemed to reach an audience on TikTok and in getting the first song on there, but I was surprised there wasn't a promo or anything for this week since iirc December 2 is the date of the wedding in the show. It seemed like they were giving copious amounts of rush tickets when I went last week so I assume they're just hoping word of mouth to kick in, and the low running costs help with that, but I do hope they're able to find a broader audience.

I don't think so. They lost money on Thanksgiving week...they should have closed rather than extend their losses.
