You’re laughing at others’ genuinely-held fear and saying they sound privileged and bigoted? For wanting to take steps to avoid possible physical harm? Hope you’re kinder than this to the kids at your school. There’s enough meanness around so please don’t foment more in the next generation
8th Avenue is a mess. Last night was like Mario Kart with the number of things to be sidestepped. I don’t blame anyone who wants to skip the theatre altogether rather than have to deal with it."
Let’s just forget the fact that you completely ignored the evidence based posts above you and only responded to this, but I digress.
I walk on 8th avenue to and from work in Times Square every day back to my apartment in a Times Square adjacent neighborhood. My only obstacles are the insane amounts of tourists clogging up the sidewalks at all times during the day. Thank god they installed that tan-paved walking zone on the west side of the street.

Do they really expect this show to sell on tour when it could not even get a NYC audience?"
The show will be at least somewhat helped on tour due to season subscriptions at touring houses. That's a certain number of guaranteed sales at every stop.

Fear can be "genuinely held" and have no basis in actual fact. I actually go to the "most dangerous" parts of NYC each day, and trust me, the theater district ain't it. Cops everywhere, people everywhere. There are pickpockets but you get that in every urban center.
I don't do this often guys but please keep me in your prayers. I’m about to walk up to Whole Foods and can’t find my machete so I’ll be vulnerable to the gangs but I need prosciutto. If this is my last post, it’s been fun.
If you opt-in to a gang this season they are giving away machetes as part of the welcome bag. IJS, if it’s on the way to Whole Foods….why not slice two meats with one blade?
I just went to Trader Joe’s yesterday and (somehow) made it back alive. I need new shoes though, having to walk through the streets littered in bodies and blood. But i need to go to Whole Foods anyways to pick some stuff up before the weekend and the storm that I hope will keep some of the murdering drug addicted prostitute pick-pockets at bay…at least for a few days.
I checked Ticketmaster and if you believe them, the first week of the show in Chicago (the beginning of March, the tour's third date) is doing pretty damn well.
The tour of 1776 is being booked as part of local broadway series, many of which are pre-sold as subscription packages. The first week of touring shows in Chicago ALWAYS look like they've sold out because so many seats are reserved for subscribers. You'll see a real reflection of ticket sales closer to its premiere date. Even as seats free up, many of them are already sold due to subscriptions.
Also, Sara Porkalob has said she is not doing the tour.
Back to what I asked a while back, can anyone conceptualize how Hadestown is doing? Are they struggling or “just doing okay”? It’s my comfort show so I hope they stick around, but I see people talk about then closing and another show waiting for the Kerr.

They're doing okay. Not great, but okay. I feel like the casting needs some new blood.

Would say that unless they get some exciting star casting next year, particularly for Summer, it won't be around come Labor Day 2023. And even so, I think its days are numbered in 2023 regardless.

I’m intimately familiar with 8th Ave, so for everyone else, here’s an exhaustive list of the “things” Boris had to dodge:
- thousands of theatregoers - tourists lining up for double decker bus rides
- pedicabs (probably the only legitimate grievance), almost definitely playing Empire State of Mind or a Michael Jackson song
- people not looking as they exit a pizza place or coffee shop - Playbill inserts and some confetti from the Hirschfeld, depending on the wind

sounds horrifying, no?"
As a New Yorker, this list is indeed my personal nightmare.
Ok, but here is a legitimate question: who are all these “party people” who have taken over Times Square since the pandemic? Did a huge club open? They’re straight lol

Honestly, the people peddling the double-decker bus rides are worse than the tourists. The only thing I'll add to this excellent list is the people waiting for the jitney bus across the street from Port Authority.
And 8th Avenue is certainly far better than Broadway/7th Avenue, where you have to dodge: (1) people hawking their CDs, (2) various Elmos, (3) tourists who've clearly never seen a light-up multimedia display before, (4) random performances of people dancing in the streets while pickpockets look for an opportunity, (5) way more aggressive halal cart guys than the halal cart guys on 8th, etc.

It might be, in part, from that new club/restaurant they opened on 44th street in that new place. Blue something. They opened the "Frosty's Christmas Bar". The line was down the street for Santa Con and the few times after I have seen a line outside. I saw some video posted from the club and it looked like a hot drunken mess.
I commented on this thread a bit ago trying to get it back on topic bit it seems to have been removed perhaps there needs to be a separate thread regarding “Crime in Times Square”
I am surprised no one has raised what I consider to be the greatest threat to our safety: the motorized bikes and scooters that have become more plentiful than rats, on sidewalks, on the streets, and seemingly unwilling to follow any traffic laws whatsoever. I recently had to take a friend to the hospital because of it and it could just as easily have been me or any of us. It's a far greater risk that eating a little prosciutto.
