Great numbers for Chicago!! The producers of the show will miss Jinkx Monsoon when her run ends.
A look at the new shows in previews:
GOOD START: Sweeney (I would say this is the only GREAT start of any of the shows in this post), Camelot (includes a boost from LCT member tickets), Parade
AN OK START WITH ROOM TO IMPROVE: Dancin' ($85 average), Life of Pi ($77 average). Average prices are decent for shows that didn't do 8 perfs last week, they just need to sell more of them. Will be interested in seeing how Doll's House does for its first full week post-opening after those rave reviews & recent press from Chastain.
BAD START: Shucked ($50 average), Bad Cinderella ($68 average). They'll need to get those numbers up quickly, and hard to predict what reviews will be like for both these titles.
Wow Chicago.
That's a pretty rough start for Shucked... that show is going to need some Tonys attention to make it to summer I fear. A Beautiful Noise is pretty underwhelming too. It was way ahead of Some Like It Hot in early days and now it seems like it's right on par.
Solid start for Camelot.

I think Shucked's numbers need to be taken with a kernel of popcorn, as their list price for tickets during previews is between $49-$69, unlike Bad Cinderella that is simply selling regular priced tickets and papering. I am not saying Shucked is in good shape, but its capacity is key during previews with its current pricing structure. Once the show opens and prices increase it will be a different story if it continues with this level of grosses.
I am amazed Kimberly Akimbo's grosses went up last week with Victoria Clark on vacation. I know she is not an above the title name, but she and her performance is a selling point to avid theatergoers, which have been the main audience of Kimberly Akimbo up until this point. With last weeks grosses on the upswing, one could posture that the show's audience has started to expand beyond Broadway regulars.
I remember seeing an article yesterday that said this is the highest non-holiday gross for CHICAGO in its entire 26 year run and that’s completely astounding. I never would’ve guessed that of the parade of stars that have passed through, Jinkx Monsoon would be the biggest box office smash. I can’t imagine they won’t invite her back many times, for hopefully more money - or this may lead to a Broadway career since she can clearly sell seats.
BAD CINDERELLA, on the other hand, may finally be the show that breaks ALW’s 40+ year streak of being on Broadway. The show cannot possibly be surviving on that low of a gross. The fact that the average ticket is $20 below a relatively low-profile revival of DANCIN’ is very telling of its fortunes. Even SOME LIKE IT HOT looks like it’s continually running out of gas
Phantom definitely deserves the bang it’s going out on. Wow.

Wow, that is amazing! I wonder if it's because Jinx has an entirely different fan base. But really quite the feather in their cap!
Shucked is clearly banking on word of mouth by filling its houses in early previews with cheap tickets.

Let’s just rotate Ru girls out every few months! I’d be okay with that

AHA! Here’s the article

I wonder how she would sell solo. After Chicago she’s doing a big solo tour and playing some huge venues. Wonder if that show turned up on Broadway for a short run how it would do.

I'd be very curious to see what Shucked's trajectory is. They seem to be doing a decent job of just getting people out the door without a big name or existing property, and so far the word of mouth has been quite good, so I think it could really gain a lot of traction.
Dancin's numbers aren't amazing but I'm honestly surprised it's doing as well as it has. Is Fosse's name notable at all outside of the theater community?
Nice jump in grosses for Some Like It Hot, but capacity numbers might be struggling a little. Would they ever close the balcony in the Shubert? My friend who went this week mentioned the mezzanine looking fairly sparse.

Alyssa Edwards as Roxie.
I think it's too early to say much about Shucked. Sure, there was likely a lot of papering this week, but they've only played 5 previews. Once word of mouth has a chance to get around, and if reviews are good (which I suspect they will be), I predict that we'll see a real uptick for them. 5 previews isn't enough to really make a judgement on, and I wouldn't call it a "bad start" quite yet.

I agree with you that Jinkx attracted new ticket buyers to see CHICAGO. If Jinkx does come back, I hope she'd perform as Roxie or Velma rather than Mama Morton.
Those Sweeney Todd numbers keep continuing to impress me! Hope they stay that way post-opening!

The amount of money I'd spend to see Willam & Alaska as Velma & Roxie.

I do agree, and we should not count it out yet –– it's just got a long way to climb, from a numbers standpoint. The body count is important for WOM, but sometimes a show can never recover when you start that low.

After that iconic lip sync last week, let's see Marcia Marcia Marcia's Roxie and Anetra's Velma.

They aren't selling any tickets just yet. Also... there's no death drops or shablams in Chicago. It's more about attitude. Alyssa Edwards is PERFECTLY cast. Willam and Alaska would be fun too. Wish they'd just bring Death Drop from London and plop it into Stage 42 and just rotate the girls out.

Happy to see Hadestown still trucking along. Not making gobs of money but paying their bills, keeping folks employed and sharing a wonderful show. It won't last forever, but I'm happy it's still going.
Anyone know (or can make a reasonable guess to) the breakevens of SLIH and Bad Cindy?

I had guesstimated around $700K, but someone on here claimed SLIH was $850K (idk if that's true or not). I doubt Cinderella is any lower.
