Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 7/19/26

Heat wave and World Cup matches on Saturday + Sunday probably kept folx away last week.

Sunday in particular was one of the busiest sports and entertainment days in NYC that I can recall: World Cup final, Yankees doubleheader, Fanatics Fest, Bon Jovi at MSG, Ariana Grande at Barclays, Noah Kahan at Citi Field.

Happy trails to PROOF, Matteo Lane, Red Concepcion, Kay Trinidad, Jewelle Blackman, and Jessie Shelton.

Worth noting that Jeremy Jordan had two planned absences from JUST IN TIME and Meg Stalter missed some time over at OH, MARY! with bronchitis (which resulted in some crazy rumors before confirmation).

Let's see if some of the locals come back and boost the numbers a bit for the end of the summer, now that the soccer hoopla is done.

Seeing how a closing announcement barely touched CATS, I’m a bit more understanding at how much it was likely going to struggle even more in the coming months.

I think the producers are fools for raising all their prices back up to where they were early in the run because it’s clearly not going to motivate people to buy when affordability remains one of the key issues.

TWO STRANGERS probably seems like it will pack it up by Labor Day. I imagine that’s when Tutty will be off-contract and going back to the UK.

Indeed. Why on earth didn't they just close this after Hargitay left if they couldn't find a bigger draw than Tracee Ellis Ross? (Though to be fair, I myself was surprised at how big a draw Mariska Hargitay was, so maybe they held out hope for a similar surprise?)

I guess not that many people wanted to see Diana Ross' daughter.

I figure at least a dozen shows did not make their weekly nut last week. Wonder how different the picture would be if someone with a brain was in the White House not alienating the rest of the planet. On top of that, there are another X shows that did make their nut, but are clearly contributing next to nothing to return money to the investors. Just awful.

I don't think we know for sure that affordability is a key issue for CATS specifically. Pure lack of interest should never be underestimated even for the best of shows.

Their attendance increased by 14% (making them nearly sold-out) and gross increased by 7%, which are both good things. It's possible it goes up even more in the final weeks. That's why it's good to give a 4+ week closing notice.

Of course, if the raising of prices doesn't work, they'll drop them. But this is the one time of this show's run that the producers can focus on scarcity.

what’s going on with Harry Potter ?

Tom being cast was the best thing for that production, people who grew up on the books and movies seem to be obsessed with the whole world of Potter. It will always be strange to me.

Once again, please go to Two Strangers Carry a Cake Across New York if you are able and want to see it.

What is the weekly nut for Buena Vista and &Juliet? They’ve been in the 600s, not good. Six is also looking rough, what is their nut? Great Gatsby has been in the 700s for weeks now, not good. Two Strangers has to be closing by Labor Day.


Lost Boys looks decent, they have been selling well enough that they haven’t been honoring past date tickets
