It’s extremely clear from her post that it’s a message of support and healing, not because she met up with him today.

if we ever get a Dreamgirls revival on Broadway, Wallace should be Effie."
If the rumors at the moment are true, we will finally be getting a revival at some point next year, to be directed by Camille A. Brown."
Next Fall would be ideal. This season is already stacked with revivals.

Exactly. Joaquina Kalukango did the same thing today

I’d say Broadway needs a revival of “Dreamgirls” more than any other musical.

Got it. Thank you for clarifying.

I always get Next Fall confused with The Velocity of Autumn.
God, I loved “Next Fall”. That’s a play I’d kill to get. Revival of.
Gosh, I haven’t thought of either play in years.
Next Fall was profoundly better. The best thing about The Velocity of Autumn was the tree.
I’d never miss Spinella on stage.

If you can read this isn’t only about you. It’s about this board and TikTok. Do more research before you respond.
I never miss an Elton John & David Furnish play!
That lawsuit is awfully silly. Yes, investors should be disappointed that the show did not have the run that they hoped it would, but I doubt it’s fraudulent spending. Running costs do increase sometimes, and it’s not illegal for producers to put a certain amount of profit towards additional advertising money. Had they not done that and had they not taken out a Priority Loan, the show probably would have folded even sooner.
This guy is also a single-unit investor who put up about .2% (notice the decimal) of the capitalization.

I don’t need to do research. You responded to my post and called me a “lowlife” I think you need to keep track of what you say before you respond with the comments you do.
I, for once, take back every sappy thing I said about the closing.
yes, I'm sad that it's closing but good lord I'm ready for this production to die. All the bickering and trash talking and drama is stupid, and I'm ready to leave it in the past. Billy was an awful emcee, but sepsis is no joke, I wish him a speedy recovery and hope that in the time he has now that he'll read over the text and understand the character more.
I'll miss this show, I hold it dearly to my heart, let this production die.
In other news, has anyone here played silksong yet? I'm still replaying the original hollow knight before treading onto silksong, but gods am I excited for silksong. Everything I've seen and heard about that game is just a chef's kiss.

Your response earned such a rebuttal.
I find it kind of funny that say Sunset and Cabaret open in London, seem to do ok, are well received by audiences and critics. The internet chatter is mainly polite and everything seems normal.
Then they transfer to New York City and the entire thing becomes a much more toxic, difficult, mess. The financials are obviously much tougher, but so are the reviews and the audiences. There are political/ideological PR disasters.
It’s all so emotional and dramatic and theatrical. I kind of love it because it makes things interesting but still hahaha.

For the sake of awards recognition, Mamma Mia would be considered a revival (even though very few elements are different from the original), but Beetlejuice would not as it would fall under the Tonys three-year rule.
DREAMGIRLS, I agree, is ridiculously overdue for a revival, but unless someone has a ready to go production for Broadway, it’s not happening this year. Plus, the longer the show is away, the higher the expectations are that they will do a stellar job with it

Oh dear. I’m afraid that no one could come close to Bennet’s brilliant staging. And I was completely underwhelmed by her work in Gypsy. Hopefully she will retain the best of Bennet’s work unlike in Gypsy where Robins work was jettisoned

Looks like they’ve updated the billing on the show’s site to list Marty Lauter and David Merino alongside Marisha’s name above the title for the last couple weeks of the run. That’s really thoughtful of the producers, and a huge boon for both of those actors.

Here’s the issue though. If we stay beholden to the original works, we are stymying the creative process of a director/choreographer who may want to create new concepts and lenses to see the work through. Brown could certainly bring a very unique perspective to the story of black female creatives mired in a male-dominated industry.
Think about the 2006 revival of A Chorus Line. It was essentially shrugged off as a production that had been cryogenically frozen and thawed out because all the elements were the same.

Lauter was originally scheduled to be out Sept 19 & 20. So Merino should be the Emcee those dates. Otherwise, the rest of the run is TBD. Probably an announcement comes later today?
