It’s coming this week and it’s only the teaser trailer so don’t expect to see any actual footage of the cats or hear any songs. It’ll probably be eyes in the dark and maybe a shot of a paw with the music of the Overture and the words COMING THIS CHRISTMAS or something vague like this.
It's probably dropping during The Lion King on Friday.
Taylor Swift just announced on Twitter it’s coming on Friday!

I can see this film being WEIRD, with no plot and sad they will replace
The original Tugger Song.
WE SHALL SEE!!! Could be genius. )-)-)-

The score!! The sets!!! The cast!!!! This did quip my interest for the movie, but it's a shame all of this effort is going for a movie that doesn't need a adaption at all.

This feels like an acid trip. I can sort of get behind the idea of the enlarged sets for a cat persepctive. Seems like a real PRODUCTION type of movie with lots of bells and whistles. Dancing looked great though! Jennifer getting into character was kind of thrilling. Oh, and the shot of Ian McKellen and Dame Judi Dench? Sold me.
The sets look incredible... but it's what the cats look like that will make or break this. If it's some weird uncanny valley thing, it doesn't matter if the sets are cool.
That promo certainly does a good job of making the film look like an 'event.' The scale of the sets is impressive but its hard to really get a sense of them without seeing how they are lit and filmed etc. I do think the dance aspect looks thrilling. That has always been one of the main attractions of the stage musical and I'm happy to see its going to be well represented in the movie.
Dunno but this little featurette actually made me tear up with a flood of emotion thinking back on the musical’s history. I was 17 when the show arrived on Broadway in 1982 and the buzz for it was enormous. It ran for 18 years so that speaks for itself. I’m now more excited for this than the upcoming film adaptations of IN THE HEIGHTS and WEST SIDE STORY.
Everything looks fantastic - I'm just irrationally terrified at what the cats will look like. I kind of wish the whole thing was done with no CGI at this point.

We already have a filmed version with people in leotards; do we really need a second one?

yes but this one has in Growltiger, lol
I've... Been talking **** about this movie from the jump, but if it can offer on what this promo is selling then I'll eat my hat.
Will the performances be done via motion capture? Or will they be all dolled up in makeup and cat costumes like the stage version? I’m just curious, because the set is more real and not all green screen like I thought it would be.
OK the marketing people at Universal definitely got me interested -- dare I say -- excited for this. Just hearing the music with new orchestrations underneath it and some of the set designs, it has a feel of a completely new approach

Am I the only one that really isn't happy about Taylor Swift and Jennifer Hudson for this? I adore this show and it would have been better off getting unknowns than "star casting". The sneak peek was cool but just confirmed Swift's poor dancing and Hudson's emotionless face.
What a bummer....

Ya know what this movie is gonna be?
Subject for one of those video essays on YouTube of "How Did This Get Greenlit?"
and then it's gonna find its way into tons of memes.
I just don't think people are ready for how genuinely corny this damn thing is gonna be.
I think this might be one of those infamous musical adaptations that are just jaw dropping hilariously bad.

Yes, let's judge the cast based on rehearsal footage that barely shows them, They don't even look like cats!

apparently motion capture in that they are adding the fur and i assume altering the faces to be more catlike? (cringe) but atleast they are keeping the human form and proportions therefore the dance element will make more sense.
I don't have a problem with a bit of CGI but I just hope it's to add some texture and alter the face a little. I think if they lose too much of the human element that will be it's downfall. For better or worse, I'm expecting the CGI to be like what they did with the Beast in the recent BATB film.
I'm not terribly thrilled about some of this casting, especially Taylor and Jennifer, and this doesn't give me much hope they'll impress. But I do hope they can change my mind on Friday. Either way, I'm just excited to finally see WTF they're doing with this thing.

That's made me really excited for this. I remember seeing this in the West End as a teenager and loving it. That opening sequence, the characters by T.S. Elliot.
What I loved about the promo was they had Francesca and Les Twins, it's sad Gillian Lynne is no longer with us and i hope they have a nod to her because her choreography defined the show.
Also the music made me tear up. And I loved the set.
It gets so much hate but it transcends definition, it cannot be labeled and I think that's what promotes the hatred.
with the music, it will be interesting to see if ALW sticks to his beloved synths or goes for a more lush, orchestral score.
