Eh, they’re probably just people who won’t let joy into their lives. I always take the Redditors at face value because it’s a lot of teenagers who don’t seem to have anything more than a marble rolling between their ears when it comes to the theatrical zeitgeist

Speaking as one of the 'shamed', this term would've made that Beaches closing thread a hell of a lot more fun --- I wasn't being insensitive, i was only coffeebreaking.

Which is funny, because I don't take this board's opinion as anything more than bored and tired queens bitching at home on their keyboards! Funny how that works on both sides...

Tonight's guest judges were Patina Miller and Adrienne Warren!

If you squint a little, that’s RuPaul and her sister.

Tonight was the NYC premiere of Stop That Train; Ru was never going to be available tonight.

Tonight's show was great. And I think Bebe Nicole Simpson threw in a little Pippin reference while she was going offstage later in the show.

Bought yesterday for my November trip, but middle of the night woke up kind of anxious wondering if I should be seeing this twice that week? But, I'd like to know if Dreamgirls is actually coming and if LCT will extend Ragtime or have something new for fall. I'm thinking if Ragtime pulls off the Tony they might extend again. & as much as I am excited to finally see Jellicle Ball, it is still ALW's Cats with the original orchestrations which IMO are pretty dated. It sounds the same Fairlight programming as every early 80's pop song. Seeing that clip of the View reminded me of that.
Also, what is special about Sunday November 22? Some shows, like Lost Boys, are dark that Sunday.

I KNOW RIGHT!!!! Imma need them to get to work on that cast recording ASAP!!! ideally if it can be a live cast recording that was done similar to the Sunset Blvd album. so that they kept the audience noise to an almost minimum. The way it worked was the cast wore DPA 4066 omnidirectional headset microphones, the orchestra and was recorded on a range of DPA instrument microphones whilst 9 microphones were added around the auditorium to achieve the spacial effect of the theatre (ideally they would have to include more microphones for effect). The album was then mixed in an immersive Dolby Atmos 7.1.2 surround format to make it feel like you were actually in the room.

I'll be honest, I hated The View presentation. It was basically just a rehash of the GMA performance at a lower caliber and I think ending with Munkustrap in his 'Bizarre' category outfit landed like a thud without the punchline. The look is stupid and Old D giving him a Chop is the point.

Ragtime will not be extending to November.

Given that we all seem to agree that the current orchestrations are very similar to the originals (with a few extra touches catered to this production), does anyone know why David Cullen is not credited (and nominated)? The original orchestrations were credited to him and ALW (as they were for many subsequent shows); given how little has changed, it seems all but certain that a substantial amount of his work remains. It just seems puzzling to me.

Seriously both The View and GMA performances do not do this production justice whatsoever…here’s hoping that their Tony performance is 1000% better, and imma keep saying it we better get a cast recording announcement within the next few weeks or at least the days leading up to the tony ceremony

I enjoyed the GMA performance, but not The View. I'd like to see more medley on The Tonys.

Here I am thinking The View was just fine.
I'm not sure why the expectations are so high on these appearances. CATS is primarily a dance show, so I'm sure it costs money to really rework and create dance medleys for a daytime appearance. I'm hopeful they can pull something fun together for the Tonys, but even that is like what, 4 minutes?

The Tonys Performance is expected to be bigger in scope and cover more aspects of the production where possible since they have more area to spread out.
The downside to the live performances are that the show is crunched into a playing space that isn’t reflective of the immersive nature of the production. I was at the GMA taping and also I’ve been to the new View studio and I feel like the newer studios, while have good tech upgrades and have a bit more versatility, are also cramped with extra cameras and equipment that makes it run.

Our group of 3 white eldergays finally caught Jellicle Ball last Sunday at 7pm from 6th row, orchestra left side. I myself loved the concept, loved the queerness, loved the chance for real black and brown representation in a show with roots that were originally lily-white. I loved the party atmosphere between performers and audience but there's a BUT there-- our Sunday night audience was probably 99% white, being entertained by a largely black and brown cast-- the sense of racial minstrelsy (duckwalk for the white folks) was really hard to shake.
I thought the staging started out magnificently, but number after number started to become a repetitious slog. Introduce a performer, start their song, vogue on down the runway, give the performer her foregone trophy, NEXT! And did anyone else find it bizarre to watch a musical where every other lyric needed to be ignored for the show to make any sense? The cast and the band made great MUSIC together, no question, but the words only connected in the most abstract of ways. Junior LaBeija's "Gus the Theater Cat" suffered perhaps the most with verse after verse of lyrics that in no way connected to the personal history that that performer has lived.
The show soared thanks to the interactions between performers-- Sillabub's scenes with Grizabella in Act I made me weep with emotion. By Act II, I needed something more revelatory and unfortunately the remaining musical numbers left to sing weren't gonna get me there. Sorry to say, I grew bored and was ready to head for the exit long before the curtain call had wrapped up. Glad to have seen what the fuss was about, but in the battle between Ballroom Culture and TS Elliott's verse, sorry to say they both came out the losers.

I was there. It was a nice cameo, and he “did a DJ set” outside the theatre after the show.
Term used loosely because, as far as his DJ skills go, he looks like a grandfather trying to figure out how to use a desktop for the first time. Still a ton of fun though hearing his songs remixed. The “Abracadabra (Gaga)/POTO” Remix was cool.
