Joanna "JoJo" Levesque is the next Florence, from June 23 - September 13. 

Gotta think the show will close at the end of her stint.

I think that’s pitch perfect replacement casting. Good for the show and good for Jojo. I’m loving her commitment to musical theatre and she’ll sing the hell out of it.

In fact, it was Michele who recommended Levesque for the role.

“[Lea] was super kind, embraced me and said that she had actually brought up my name [to producers], which I didn't know," details Levesque. "So when they were looking for somebody to take over for her, she was like, ‘What about JoJo?’ And that was a beautiful thing to hear."

Just struck me "funny" that this situation is completely the opposite of the handling and situation of the Funny Girl replacement casting. Wow, what a time that was! Is there any drama right now that compares?

There is also the ever-present rumor that DREAMGIRLS is looking to move into the Imperial this fall. However, if the show keeps selling as it has been, and Jojo maintains or bumps up the box office, I can imagine they may get bumped to the Majestic (or Broadway if Gatsby folds this summer).

I also have the strange feeling that Lea might just be taking the summer off and will return in September, but they wouldn’t mention that just yet since it drives up demand for Lea now, and doesn’t steal Jojo’s thunder by saying “you can wait until Lea comes back”. If the show continues past September, I could see many cast changes happening around that time.

I have to admit that i have never heard of her.  I read up on her and see that she has some imoressive credentials.  Can't tell if she will sell a lot of tickets.  What do people thiink?

Well as a fan of her, I can tell you she’s got an INSANE voice if you listen to her music, and she sold relatively well alongside Aaron Tveit in Moulin Rouge! so this is definitely gonna be good.

Her and Aaron were one of my favorite pairings in MR and she was my second favorite Satine after Ashley Loren.

I think this casting is really going to be a good boost for summer numbers

Agree. Early September was my guess of how long the extension would go before we even knew who the replacement was.  Sets it up for Dreamgirls to to come in afterwards as the rumours say they wanted.

That explains it. I was wondering how they had such an elaborate set in the TV studio. The other thing I kept thinking is, it must be uncomfortable dancing in a three-piece suit.

Lea will be on the Kelly Clarkson Show on Monday March 30.

 

AFAIK this was taped February 9. After Bryce was announced on KC I thought they had somehow scratched Lea's segment, but here we go.

It doesn't show in this clip, but you can tell Lea was trying hard to recruit Kelly back in February when this was taped. We'll see if she does end up at &Juliet.
