That is BULL. Allowing everyone to travel to the theater from wherever they are coming from just to see that on the door? Surely a social media post would reach more people BEFORE they go there. Ugh. They need a better system than people arriving, in their seats, in the lobby, etc and then announcing things are canceled."
I would hope they at least email ticket holders directly when a cancellation is determined? Right? They must send an email…

It’s a tumultuous time, and I think they may be wanting to make decisions that protect the integrity of the show and jobs. It’s not an easy time to manage this."
I vaguely remember hearing that the kids in Annie weren't allowed to play with the Broadway Softball League because they didn't want them to get hurt. There are other clauses in other industries about risky behavior (specifically am remembering how Jeff Kent lied that he slipped and fell while washing his car, when he was riding a motorcycle, in violation of his contract) — so I'm with you there. I've been surprised at how many actors' instagram stories have been filled with parties and other types of gatherings I'm not even comfortable doing myself, and I'm boosted and work from home.
I would hope so. I was just reacting to a damn sign on the door and thinking how pissed off I would be. Not everyone has a smart phone or even carries a phone with them to the theater.
Jagged doesn't seem cancelled after all. It was still selling tickets through their website/telecharge up to 6pm(can't purchase tickets online an hour before curtain). Nor is there anything on any social platform stating it is cancelled.
I know this would have tremendous financial repercussions, and I never thought I would say this again, but Broadway has to shut down again for an indefinite period of time. It’s all just too much for us to handle.

This is terrible. Tourists are going to be spooked by this and not want to risk buying tickets and making trips to the city. I read that case are currently up by 70% from last month. Not good.

Odd there's nothing on any of their socials.
This winter is going to be terrible. Even the popular shows won't fill to capacity. Everyone will be reluctant to buy tickets.

Count me in as one of those spooked tourists. I was just in the city last weekend for the DEH re-opening and had such a phenomenal time that when I got home I booked another trip for 12/26-28 to see DEH again and JLP. As soon as the JLP notice went up today I cancelled everything. While the ticket cost is obviously refundable if the show is cancelled, I can't risk traveling over 5 hours and spending that kind of money on a hotel to have the shows I want to see be cancelled an hour beforehand.

That sounds about right. Come from Away is testing the cast and crew on site in the theater, creating a large exposure risk (not including allowing the band to perform unmasked, and play inches away from audience members). It's miraculous they haven't shut down yet.
I hear other theaters are having problems with cast/musicians not wearing masks when they are not on stage. I've seen the music director at Book of Mormon go maskless for most of the performance.
There are a significant number of front of house staff (ushers, merch, bar) that work more than one theater, and can spread the virus if it goes undetected."
I have to say in regards to COME FROM AWAY: I have seen a number of cast members, several on multiple occasions, en route to the theatre. I assume I live near several. They are ALWAYS masked, taking it incredibly seriously, several wear gloves. Perhaps they're all just really hunkering down and making sacrifices. Or maybe they've just gotten lucky...."
They haven’t gotten lucky. Wait about an hour."
Ridiculous thatJaggedandCome From Awayare not announcing yet, especially as we are nearing the supposed 7 PM show time for both."
It was only decided about an hour ago. They didn’t anticipate closing until they found out how many people that were supposed to be there got exposed.
I don’t even leave my house besides going to get exercise outdoors. I doubt that’ll change for at least a few more months.
Come From Away is playing tonight.

Unless there’s been a development in the past hour I’m unaware of, it is definitely not.

There are people who drive in from all over the area every day just to see a show and drive home afterward. I grew up in Northeastern PA and used to do it all the time. Just the cost of gasoline, food and parking is too much to risk wasting not to mention the hotel room cost. I can’t imagine having several nights booked along with airline tickets and theatre tickets in the next couple weeks. I’d be cancelling it all.

I live here and wouldn’t buy tickets right now. If I lived far away, I would not even take a comp ticket. It’s not worth the travel if it gets canceled.

Is anyone keeping track of everything that’s closed so far tonight? I realize this could change even in the next 20 minutes.

This is obviously unsustainable for the industry - something has to give. But is the only answer another shutdown? This is just so heartbreaking.

Any show that shares multiple staff teams with other shows will most likely be canceled. The same people who work at Ain’t Too Proud work at Come From Away
I am seeing reports on Twitter that Moulin Rouge cancelled 10 mins after it was supposed to start tonight. Gosh this is all breaking my heart.

Here’s my list of shows that I predict will also close tonight:
CFA which has been confirmed for several hours but not announced
Girl From the North Country
Ain’t Too Proud
American Utopia
Book of Mormon
and Wicked but most likely tomorrow
I bet Broadway will shut down indefinitely once again.
The Broadway League may as well announce it tomorrow afternoon

This is nuts. They actually opened the house? I know Flying Over Sunset is doing their show.
