I’m not saying that this is necessarily untrue, but I work at Come From Away and nobody I know gets tested on site."
Sure they do. The entire company who are employees of the production (Kiss the Cod). Anyone who is a Shubert employee gets tested off site.

Do we know if Come From Away performed tonight? What about Mockingbird and Lehman Trilogy?

Count me in as one of those spooked tourists. I was just in the city last weekend for the DEH re-opening and had such a phenomenal time that when I got home I booked another trip for 12/26-28 to see DEH again and JLP. As soon as the JLP notice went up today I cancelled everything. While the ticket cost is obviously refundable if the show is cancelled, I can't risk traveling over 5 hours and spending that kind of money on a hotel to have the shows I want to see be cancelled an hour beforehand."
There are people who drive in from all over the area every day just to see a show and drive home afterward. I grew up in Northeastern PA and used to do it all the time. Just the cost of gasoline, food and parking is too much to risk wasting not to mention the hotel room cost. I can’t imagine having several nights booked along with airline tickets and theatre tickets in the next couple weeks. I’d be cancelling it all."
I live here and wouldn’t buy tickets right now. If I lived far away, I would not even take a comp ticket. It’s not worth the travel if it gets canceled."
This is obviously unsustainable for the industry - something has to give. But is the only answer another shutdown? This is just so heartbreaking."
Definitely, if it's unsustainable there is no choice but another shutdown.
“Moulin Rouge” just canceled while audience was seated, waiting for it to start.

Come From Away staff, including me, were told to go home two hours ago. If they haven’t officially stated it yet, they will. As for Mockingbird, it shares a staff with multiple other shows, so there’s a good bet it’ll close too

Unfortunately, I'm all prepared for another 18 months - or more - of theatrical silence.

You should have stayed. The show sounds good!

The Ain’t Too Proud tour cancelled its first two weeks (15 performances) at the Kennedy Center. That does not bode well for the subsequent tour dates.

Sadly it can’t be sustainable with a variant that is overcoming vaccines and boosters, even if the infection is only mild (let’s hope). It’s happening in the sports world too. The casts don’t have the ability to wear masks - how won’t they all infect each other given how rapidly omicron appears to spread? Sad for everyone who works in and loves theater right now.

Can I PM you?
Julie Reiber tweeted an hour prior to curtain she was on as Beverley, so if they were told two hours prior to curtain, why would she be told she was going on?

I was told that a meeting had occurred and that CFA would be suspended for the night, and most likely through the weekend.

Ahh thanks soulmistin! I'm supposed to see Mockingbird this weekend so I'm definitely between a rock and a hard place right now.

Well, you can prepare for anything you want, just as survivalists do, but if you prefer to pay attention to history and science, you'd know that there is no intellectual basis for the extremist/pessimist posture you seem to be adopting. But as I say, it is of course your choice. And as I have also said, expect a hiatus, for most or maybe all shows, until Spring.
Just for clarification to everyone I confused about Come From Away. The show does seem to be currently running. I personally was sent home and told the show would be cancelled. I guess that decision wasn’t officially made yet. I also happened to be COVID exposed, and could not have come in anyway, so I guess they just didn’t feel the need to tell me that it wasn’t actually cancelled.

I know there’s unions and rules in place so people get paid, but what about like the merch and bartenders? Are they getting paid for all these cancelled shows? That can’t be sustainable for anyones income.

Depending on their companies, if they were scheduled to work they will be compensated for it

I'd say a possible hiatus until February/March at the most but I would sincerely hope not for this.
At best, I could see Broadway shutting down for 2 weeks in the Winter. However, it appears most of these cases are breakthrough cases and would only cause 3-4 performances to be cancelled. No need to assume another 18-month shutdown is coming. All Broadway actors, musicians & crew are vaccinated and, if testing positive, are asymptomatic.

Cancellations are going to happened. What I don’t agree is with the waiting for people sitting and with their drink concessions to cancel.
From DEADLINE tonight:
"The audience at tonight’s performance of Broadway’s Moulin Rouge! was seated and waiting for the music to start when the show was canceled due to a positive Covid test result within the company. The result apparently had been received just prior to curtain.
The audience was ushered out of the Al Hirschfeld Theatre. Producers are expected to announce an updated schedule performance Friday."

How exactly are you "prepared"? Are you employed in this industry and ready to possibly lose your job for an unknown length of time? Or are you going to continue living your life in whatever way you want to and have been for the past 2 years?
As someone who has to constantly think about the former, I beg of you to shut UP with your constant doomsdaying as if you are personally stockpiling Playbills to get you through second shutdown and spewing your anxiety on everyone here. Please. Stop. You are contributing literally nothing by saying multiple times in every conversation that everything is going to lockdown again. Everyone is aware of the possibilities.

Also my issue. There needs to be an updated protocol on how late a show can cancel before the start of a show. There should be at least an hour notice if the show is planning to cancel. The cancellations when people are seated is not ok.
