I was wondering if anyone else can share cancelled Broadway Shows that put up a Marquee but never began performances.
What comes to mind for me ?

I could be wrong about this, but I believe Room had a marquee up at the Jones.

I wonder why shows don’t cancel more often when they look to be over budget and bad.
Hillary Swank's "The Miracle Worker" at the Music Box is one I always think of.
The infamous Lone Star Love.

The Heart of Robin Hood at the Marquis
If I remember correctly, "Busker Alley" had it's Marquee up when Tommy Tune broke his foot out of town and the backers withdrew their money.
Did Nerds even make it to a marquee? I truly can't remember.

Kad woke up and chose violence here today lol
They did! I remember seeing Nerds up at the Longacre! And the cast was already in rehearsals.
The 2009 revival of Broadway Bound (in the Neil Simon rep) at Nederlander. Brighton Beach Memoirs opened and closed in previews

It was definitely up there. A backer pulled out when they began rehearsals.
Wasn't Adrienne Warren's last show about to start rehearsals and had a marquee up?
Senator Joe played 3 previews, but Nimrod and the Tower of Babel never made it. This was the Alvin/Neil Simon Theatre in its 1980s disaster mode, post-Annie.

I was just going to mention this show. You remember correctly. It was 1995. That show had numerous rewrites while touring and never seemed to have gotten better.

"
For a show that never opened, that marquee is fücking amazing
Jorge, the artwork is on the facade and technically not the marquee. Busker Alley, originally called Buskers, was coming into the St. James on the heels of Tommy closing. The facade of the St. James was painted bright yellow with black lettering spelling out Tommy all over it, so I guess it was cheaper to paint the building yellow and paint the images rather than return the facde to its usual unpainted surface.
I remember seeing posters all over Penn Station for Whistle Down the Wind. Did that ever get a marquee?
Yes, at the Martin Beck (now the Hirschfeld). There doesn't seem to be any photographic evidence of it, though.

OT but I would definitely want to buy a ticket to "Busker Alley" if I saw this theater. Looks amazing! Reminds me of when the Rodgers was painted for "Footloose" and the O'Neill for "Grease". Hairspray had a pretty extensive exterior too.

You are correct. They had signs on the doors about refunds for a while before The Sign In Sidney Brustein's Window moved in.

Brighton Beach Memoirs actually did open, but with no advance sale. The entire engagement was closed before Broadway Bound gave its first preview.
BBM was excellent so I eagerly anticipated BB, arguably my favorite of Simon's plays, so this was a big disappointment.
