Hello all,
Planning a trip to NYC this weekend - one of the shows we are seeing is Carousel. What has the attendance been for principals? Would love to see Lindsay Mendez - but also, Joshua, Renee and Jessie. Sorry is this a repeat post, stupid question or anything else that upsets anyone. I really find most of the information on here very helpful and informative and I just really want to know. Thank you all!
Joshua has never missed a show, even when his wife gave birth.

Mendez was out last Friday and Saturday. Her understudy said she was sick. Also on Saturday night, the understudy for Louise was on. I thought her dancing and acting were excellent.
Jessie and Lindsay have missed a few because of illness, but you should be fine. Unfortunately, there’s no way to predict if something like that will be the case the night you see it, but I don’t think absences are too frequent.
Lindsey Mendez was out last Friday evening when I saw the show, as was the actress who played Louise.
The understudies were both very good.

Can you tell me the name of the understudy? I think Julie and Carrie have more than one. Thanks! I think one person might do both parts.

Erica Spyres was on for Carrie and Leigh-Ann Esty was on for Louise.

The first time Lindsay was out, Scarlett Walker went on for her. She went on an additional matinee as well. Erica Spyres has been on twice for Lindsay after that. I believe Jessie has only missed one show, and Erica went on. Renee has not missed a full performance, but did have to miss Act 2 one night, and Rosena Hill Jackson went on for her. Joshua has not missed a single performance. Also to note, Alexander Gemignani is out until July 15th.
I was at the one performance Mueller missed. Erica Spyres did a fine job, but how good can you really be in this production?

I’d say you could be really good... as in Tony Award winner good.
As someone else noted, Renée has only missed part of one performance; otherwise she's been doing all 8 every week. Lindsay was sick the night I attended, but she still performed, and you couldn't tell she was under the weather, so I think she probably does everything she can to go on as scheduled.
It looks like Alexander Gemignani is out for almost the next month. Does anybody know why?
I have to say, the principals in the Carousel cast have really had a excellent attendance record, especially through the crush of awards' season. I saw it on the Tuesday after the Tonys and everyone was in fabulous voice.

Gemignani is the artistic director of the O'Neill Center's National Musical Theater Conference, which runs from June 23-July 15. He is taking a brief leave from the show to tend to business related to the conference, and will be back once it's over.

Also, Renee Fleming is on a leave of absence from the production from September 4 through October 28.
^I wonder if they'll bring in a replacement, or just bump up the understudy. I'd kind of like to see Victoria Clark in that role.

My dream would be Audra as Nettie but I know that won't happen.

That's not a bad idea. It's only for a month and she will definitely be a draw. I don't know if she wants to work with Rudin again but I'm into it.

I have heard a name floated around, but I don't want to share it because it's not official and could just be a rumor. But it is someone who would be considered on the same level as Fleming.

Derrick Davis (Phantom,Lion King) just announced that he will be joining the show in a "feature role" and will be covering Billy .Guess somebody is leaving

Maybe Nicholas Belton is leaving? I believe he’s a Billy cover and he has the role of “Heavenly Friend.”

Please not Denyce Graves - she was the weak point in the otherwise phenomenal Carousel at Lyric Opera in Chicago.
Saw Scarlett go on for Carrie and she was excellent.

This would be amazing, and probably the only way I’d choose to see this revival.
