I am very much looking forward to this. I saw the revival with Rebecca Luker and have always been sorry I never went back to see Laura Benanti as Maria.

I saw the revival with twice - with each of them - and loved it.
I can't wait for tonight!

Menu for my viewing party tonight:
Crock Pot Austrian Goulash (similar to but slightly different from Hungarian goulash)
Thin egg noodles with butter
Bratwurst in a creamy brown mustard sauce
Boiled potatoes sprinkled with melted butter and finely chopped parsley
Red cabbage salad with cucumbers, pears and raspberry vinaigrette
Warm pumpernickel bread with butter and apricot jam
Sachertorte
Austrian Wine and Austrian Beer (not as easy to find in NYC as you might think)
First guests arrive in about 4 hours. Time for a nap.

What a perfect menu. I just saw an interview with Audra McDonald, who said they did record the soundtrack beforehand. I'm so confused. Will they be live singing tonight?

^ Singing live to pre-recorded orchestral tracks. The documentary last week implied that the orchestral tracks were laid down separately during the same recording sessions as the TV cast album.

They wanted the best mixed orchestral sound, so the tracks were laid down ahead of time. How ever that would've been incredible if the Orchestra was live in studio tonight!

I'm really excited, but I'm also a little nervous about it being filmed live. I'm mostly worried about tech issues like cameras coming into the frame or mics going out. I'm not really worried about the cast. I'm sure they'll be great. I hope it all goes smoothly.

I'm surprised the musician's union agreed to this. I'm sure one of the reasons they are singing to pre-recorded is to save on the cost of musician salaries.

If anyone ever tells you that you put too much Parmesan cheese on your pasta, stop talking to them. You don't need that kind of negativity in your life.

I am guessing it has to due more with logistics. Since the sets are all over the studios, they would have to move the orchestra after every scene. Even if they stayed in one place, they would have to pipe in the music anyway to the cast.

I'm curious about where the microphones will be. Have they talked about that? Will the cast be using hidden body mics or will the mics be above them and out of frame like on a conventional movie set? Also, will they be able to hear the music in the studio or are they using ear pieces?

They have not addressed this from what I know, CATS. If I were to base my answer solely on the behind-the-scenes footage of dress rehearsals, though, I'd say they are all being individually mic'd.

SoM Purist - probably not the best term to use. I am loyal to the movie. Seen it at least 200 times. Julie Andrews is perfection, IMHO, but I will watch tonight with a somewhat open mind.
For those of us on the West Coast, if there flubs, will they be edited? Hope not - I want the full "live" experience.

Unless one of the cast members accidentally drops an F-bomb the west coast will see the same exact broadcast as the east coast.

Benanti Played Maria when she was 19? Isn't that really young for the character?

"Benanti Played Maria when she was 19? Isn't that really young for the character?"
Not really. The real Maria was 19 when joined the convent, 21 when she became a governess, and 22 when she married the Captain. When ALW was casting for his 2006 revival, he said it always bothered him when older actresses would be cast as Maria. He wanted someone you could believe would actually climb a tree and scrape her knee. When he put up casting notices, he wanted girls 17-21, but ended up casting a 23 year old.
I think Maria is supposed to be in her early 20s. I can't imagine anyone over the age of 25 being described the way the song "Maria" describes the character.

I've been hearing rumors elsewhere that members of the cast are having vocal issues, likely due to sickness/weather and the amount of rehearsal. Apparently the producers have considered not having them sing live after all (but obviously won't publicize that).
Anyone know anything?

ABB, I have heard nothing of the sort and while it's always possible I'd be very surprised. Unless they have been rehearsing with their prerecorded vocals, it would be an extremely dangerous move to pull as lip-syncing is an art (believe it or not). Don't believe me? Watch the music guests on parade floats on Thanksgiving.
