Got home from work early and see NBC has a new commercial. Very nice. They really have promoted this show. One day more.... : )
I'm looking forward to watching this show, and I hope it lives up to the hype. Everything I've seen has been very promising, and Underwood's Idol performance of "Hello Young Lovers" was years ago (I don't really remember it well, but maybe that's a good thing) and she seems to have learned to adapt her voice to singing musical theatre. She sounds great in all the clips I've heard from this production, and I hope she's able to act the role well, too.
I have been seeing a lot of misinformation about this production even in the press (I think it was Entertainment Weekly that mentioned a puppet show, for instance), so I wrote a little article for my blog, mostly aimed at fans of the film who may be unfamiliar with the play, but also about my expectations and hopes for the production. Here it is:

Does anyone know if NBC will be airing it on their website? And if not, will it then be available on the website after it airs?

I doubt it. After all, they'd want to sell DVDs. You can always try to catch the repeat broadcast.
Audra singing "Climb Every Mountain". PERFECTION.
(Christmas at Rockefeller Center)
She was pretty great. Her visible breath in the cold air and the sound coming out of it was a winter wonderland.
beagle, I think I was the first to recall the "Hello, Young Lovers" debacle on AI, so I should speak up now and say I think Carrie Underwood has put that all behind her. She sounds great on the new soundtrack!
I cannot stop listening to The Lonely Goatherd, and that's not typically a track I listen to on any of the previous SOM recordings, but there's something that she does with the song that is so charming that I cannot help but hitting REPEAT SONG on my iPad. Girl has got some gorgeous pipes on her!

^^I don't know...but I do know that NBC plans to re-broadcast it "at least" once again before Christmas..so maybe if it's not available now, it will be a that time.
The soundtrack previews were really good and hopefully it puts to rest on debating Carrie's talents, she is pretty good in the vocal department. The sets look really nice and the big soundstage helps.
There was one tv spot that said "For the first time in over 50 years", when was the last live musical tv special??
CINDERELLA with Julie Andrews in 1957

Really? That's my favorite number from the film. I know Julie's not really yodeling, but that's what's so great about it, to me. She hits every one of those notes so strongly and securely. Her voice is sheer perfection on it. Well, actually, it is on every number; but that's my favorite one.
I'm very much looking forward to this production, but I don't think it's going to be a positive for anyone involved. No matter how great they all might be, most people will find it pales by comparison to what they know so well, the film. It'll no doubt be a ratings winner, so that's the most important thing. Perhaps it'll open the door for musicals that don't already have a perfect version out there. I'd love to see MY FAIR LADY or MAME, for example.

PBS and Live At Lincoln Center need to get on the phone stat and call NBC out on their false advertising.
Was "Light In The Piazza" the last one or has their been another since then?
And didn't Patti do "Sweeney Todd" live?
The Lincoln Center shows aren't the same things, as they are broadcasts of stage plays. CINDERELLA was the last time a musical produced for television was presented live.

Late to the party here, so I apologize if this has already been discussed. I know the orchestra is pre recorded. Will the singing be live or also recorded?
I'm a SoM purist and was not excited when I heard this was being done, but I've changed my tune after hearing the soundtrack. Does Carrie hit the same last note as Julie in Do Re Mi, or was the key changed?
"Mother Elvis."

From the Hollywood Reporter Article:
"To see The Sound of Music live, which hasn't been a live musical since the '50s is historic."
I knew that 90s Broadway revival was DOA.

It's the first time someone's done it in a studio and not just broadcast a live performance in a studio.
And no, Sweeney Todd was not broadcast live.
Just listened to the soundtrack. I'm pretty impressed with Carrie, but I'm also curious to know about which keys she's singing in if there are any music experts out there. I still wish they would have used "I Have Confidence" or even just included it as a bonus track on the CD.

This article is the closest to how I feel about it. I have always been indifferent to Underwood - not a fan, not a hater. SOM probably won't change that. The smart thing was surrounding her with the cast that they did. I think NBC will get their Christmas wish.
Carrie Underwood underwhelms on ‘Music’ soundtrack
Did no one see the big article in today's tv section of the NY Post talking about all the theatre snobs on Broadwayworld and other sites who have bashed Carrie Underwood, and how they all need to get over themselves?
I just bought some of the songs off iTunes and WOW Carrie and everyone sounds fantastic.
Im sorry if this has been discussed,
but does anyone know if they are going to go commercial free at least till intermission?
CBS broadcast a live performance of Wonderful Town with most of the original Broadway cast as a color special in 1958. A studio recording of that cast, the first of Wonderful Town in stereo, is still available and the black-and-white kinescope of the broadcast survives.
