I don’t believe Kristin Chenoweth or Brittany Johnson, for instance, are naive enough to not expect their primary fan bases to be upset from their posts."
Some celebrities do have hard-to-find private accounts solely for their actual close circles. But many celebrities at least have people who handle their public accounts to some degree, or at least should, to prevent this sort of thing.
I mean, I think the major thing you lost was... context. Scherzinger commented on noted nutjob Russell Brand's photo of himself wearing a MAGA-style hat days after the election.

Many people in entertainment are republicans and hiding it but the elephant in the room, especially when we're talking about musical theatre, is Christianity. Musical theatre is a deeply Christian coded artform and even when Christians are not conservative, it is incredibly hard to be a Christian in America and not hold at least someeeeeee conservative beliefs.
A friend gave me a first hand account of the week post-like at Sunset and Nicole was basically so upset that people would think she voted for Trump and when they explained why liking that post made it pretty easy to think that she just responded that she liked it because it said Jesus.
Celebrities are already not always the brightest bunch but add in the religious aspect? You're always gonna be on the edge of disappointment with these people.

If you care at all about LGBTQ+ lives, you would share Kirk's concerns and criticism on islam. The left doesn't seem to do anything to stop their suppression and abuse of women and their goal of murdering of gay people, to name a few problems. In fact, they are defending it. Thousands of islamic schools in the west teach children that homosexuals must be slaughtered and that beating women is ok and that you can rape them, it's in Quran. And islam is not a religion, it is an ideology that has not been through enlightenment. Whenever you say something about this, the left starts to attack the messenger.
The left pretends their intentions are good. But good intentions can be evil. It's not hard to see where the real danger lies.

Is "the left" here with us in the room right now? Blink twice if it's hiding in the closet.
You're describing a shadowy, all-powerful hivemind that somehow exists everywhere and nowhere at once, holding a single opinion on all things.

I don't think publicists have entirely caught on yet, but Instagram puts the people you follow's likes and comments right up top on posts. They should all be advising their clients to just stop commenting on any post that has to do with politics/religion, unless they want that associated with their name/brand going forward. I forget where I got this from, but I heard the expression "If you wouldn't want it on a billboard with your face next to it, don't post it online." More than ever, you should be careful with what you say or don't say it at all.
Especially with the Kirk situation, there are SO many people who have public-facing jobs that are commenting on this online in one way or another. Yet, they get mad when people respond or react. I wish more people realized that more often than not, your words are not needed. If you're raising awareness for a cause you care about, then yes, please speak up. But there's no reason you need to comment on every major news story on your public Instagram account. You gain nothing by doing that, and unfortunately, in today's day and age, you just stand to alienate more people.

We are just one patti reference away from the holy trinity of controversy!

And since this is BroadwayWorld Forum, you can double controversy by mentioning BOTH Broadway Pattis!

Gov. Spencer Cox (R-UT) made the rounds of Sunday morning news programs today. I watched his interview on NBC's "Face the Nation" this morning.
Be prepared for the spin that's being put out into the public re: the cause of political violence in America. Cox and other Republicans are blaming The Internet and social media. Cox stated, "I can't emphasize enough the damage that social media and the internet is doing to all of us."
Cox stated last Friday (re: Tyler Robinson): "There was a radicalization that happened in a fairly short amount of time." When pressed for details on Sunday's "Face the Nation" (specifically, How was the suspect radicalized? and How quickly did it happen?) Cox replied: "Well, again, those are pieces of information that we're still gathering, trying to understand."
How can they make the claim of "radicalization" before they've completed gathering the evidence, or are still "trying to understand"?
No one has dared to mention the unabashed bullying behavior of the Commander-in-Chief, like the very recent "Chipocalypse Now" threat Trump made on the city of Chicago as being a possible explanation for why Americans are upset enough to consider political violence.
Nope. It's social media and the "deep, dark internet, the Reddit culture, and these other dark places of the internet" (Cox's description) that are radicalizing our children.
And republicans are gonna make d@mn sure nobody crosses any unacceptable lines with social media posts. Careers are now at stake.
It's a weird thing for them to fixate on considering how integral platforms like Reddit, Discord, Facebook, and Twitter/X were and are to MAGA. The mythical dispossessed young men that Kirk spoke to and that form a huge part of the Trump movement are also extremely online- they play video games, they stream, and they're on these platforms. There is no MAGA youth movement without them.

Honestly, I think this whole "the internet is radicalizing our children" is just a bait and switch to try and take focus off of the Epstein files, tariffs, possible government shut-down, and just plain ol' "Trump" in general.
Blaming the internet has better optics than any explanation that might indicate Americans have had enough of Trump and others who think like him.

Yes and they haven't seemed to mind Trump not enforcing the TikTok ban that Congress passed.

It's absolutely a distraction, as are their desperate attempts to link this to trans people.

it is kinda wild that Patti LuPone caught such a storm for asking the theater next door to turn the music down, and Chenoweth is publicly mourning an out and out bigot and fascist with nary a response from "the industry"--whose hypocrisy simply has no bounds.
every other word out of charlie kirks mouth was insulting minorities, fomenting rage at sane moderate policies, and generally lying about data to justify his bigotry. his murder is an outrage that must be condemned from every rooftop but his views were vile. chenoweth's best defense here is her inexcusable ignorance. disgusting.
